John is survived by his wife, Mary Ellen Innocenti (née Donahue), his children, Donna Innocenti, Theresa Kraus, Martha Cotterman, John Innocenti and Paul Innocenti, 10 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, and his twin brother Alfred. He is preceded in death by his mother, Anna and father, John, his brother Frank and his 4 sisters Nora, Nancy, Dee and Evelyn.
John was born in Washington, D.C. on September 27, 1921. He graduated from McKinley Tech High School in Washington, D.C. in 1939. He enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps and served in the South Pacific as a radio operator during World War II. Upon his honorable discharge in 1945 he attended art school in Washington D.C. before entering the District of Columbia Metropolitan Police Department where he served from 1946 until his retirement in 1971.
John was a devoted member of the Catholic Church, lending his time and efforts as a volunteer to various churches in the Maryland/D.C. area. He was an avid sports fan, following his Washington Redskins and Washington Capitals throughout his later years, a weekend golfer and a friend to all who met him.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, November 30, 2019 at 12:30 p.m. in the chapel at Our Lady of Perpetual Help, 929 Harvard Avenue, Clovis, CA 93612.
The family asks in lieu of flowers that donations be directed to St. Jude’s Hospital.
A memorial Mass and celebration of life for extended family and friends will take place in Maryland at a later date.
