Joe worked in construction as a carpenter, general contractor and custom home builder. His hobbies included wood carving, bingo, pinochle and traveling. He was a United States Navy veteran and longtime member of both First Baptist Church of Clovis and Masonic Lodge. Joe loved to serve others and be involved in his community.
A devoted husband, father and grandfather, his greatest joy was spending time with his family and friends. He was a great storyteller and enjoyed sharing stories about his life. He was loyal, kind, committed and a man of integrity who believed in living by the "Golden Rule". He was a loving, generous, kindhearted man who led by example. He will truly be missed by all who were fortunate enough to know him.
Joe was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Betty Jean Hunter; wife of five years, Winifred Martin Hunter; his daughter, Laura Jane Pope; and his son, Joe Dale Hunter.
He is survived by his daughter, Deborah McDonald and her husband Jack; his daughter, Judy Masters; his son, Thomas Hunter; son-in-law, Luke Pope; daughter-in-law, Lynda Hunter; 11 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life will be held at First Baptist Church of Clovis, 2080 Tollhouse Road, in Clovis, CA, on Saturday, November 3, 2018, at 11:30 a.m.
