Joy passed away on Thursday August 29, 2024, at the age of 85. By her side when she passed were her husband John S. Strickland and her daughter Jana L. Trukki.
She is survived by her husband of 66 years, John; their children John S. Strickland III and his wife Karen Strickland; daughter Jana Trukki and her husband Brian Trukki; her grandchildren, Morgan Strickland, Taylor Strickland, Claire Zelasko and Emma Zelasko; great granddaughter Olivia Watson; her brother D. Mike Steele and his wife Susan Steele.
Joy graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1957. It was at Roosevelt where she met her husband John. Immediately after graduating John enlisted in the United States Navy. They were married in October of 1957 and moved to Hawaii where John was stationed.
You can say that Joy was a “Sports Mom” because she was a team mother, scorekeeper, Manager and Super Fan of the teams her children and grandchildren played for over the years. She was an avid reader and also enjoyed playing cards and games with family and friends. She enjoyed camping trips in Yosemite. She also caught her fair share of trout on the Kings River below Pine Flat Dam.
If asked Joy would tell you she was most proud of raising her children and being involved in the lives of her grandchildren.
