The family later relocated to Huntington Station, NY, where Judy was raised.
As a child, Judy attended Bethel AME Church in Huntington, New York, where she accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior.
In 1974 Judy simultaneously earned a high school diploma from Walt Whitman High School and obtained her LPN license from Lewis A. Wilson Technological Center. She joined the U.S. Navy in 1980 and served her county until she was honorably retired in 1987. In August 1999, Judy later earned a Bachelor of Science in Community Health from Fresno State University. She worked at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center from 1990-2003, when she retired.
She leaves to cherish her precious memories: her daughter Denice LaShania Thigpen; four siblings, Melvin J. Center (Sue), Arthur Center, Alvin L. Center (Mattie), Vivian C. Williams; three nieces, Shneeka Center, Sierra Center, Shae Center, and special nieces: Cheyenne L. Brumfield and CéVone T. Bradshaw and two nephews, Arthur J. Center and Stanley B.
