Kathleen Brown, also known as Kathy, or "Our Tante," entered into rest on August 23, 2025, at the age of 80. Born on November 20, 1944, in Culver City, California, Kathy was a resident of Fresno, California. Known for her patient, inspirational, and wise nature, she touched many lives throughout her journey.
Kathy pursued her education with dedication, studying Sociology at California State University, Los Angeles. She earned a Master's in Education from California Pacific University and obtained a Teaching Credential from California State University, Fresno. Her early education was completed at Culver City High School.
Her career was marked by significant contributions to education and community service. Kathy began her work as a YMCA Camp Counselor and went on to serve the Fresno Unified School District from 1972 to 2007. She was the founder and director of New Spirot Charter from 2012 to 2016. Kathy taught at several schools, including Tioga Middle School, Ahwanhee Middle School, Sequoia Middle School, and Kings Canyon Middle School.
Kathy was preceded in death by her parents, Ward Wallace Brown and Etta Kathleen (Dunford) Brown as well as her sister Deanna Chaffin.
She is survived by her loving family, including her nieces Barbara Varick and Kathy Glick, and her nephew Phil Altpeter and his wife Angela. Her legacy continues through her great nieces Courtney Varick, Kim Smith, Kristen Altpeter, Aubree Altpeter, and Ashley Nessling; her great nephew Owen Nessling; and her great great nieces and nephews Brindolynn Altpeter, Scarlett Altpeter, Delilah Guerbadot, Isabella Nessling-Amezola, and Silas Altpeter.
A Celebration of Life will be at Trinity Lutheran Church on September 6, 2025 beginning at 10:00am. The church is located at 3973 North Cedar Avenue, Fresno, California, 93726. Kathy will be laid to rest at Clovis Cemetery, 305 North Villa Avenue, Clovis.
Kathy's life was a testament to her ability to inspire and guide those around her, leaving a lasting impact on her community and family.
To keep this legacy alive, Kathy's family is requesting that those who attend the celebration of life write letters about Kathy to remind them of the light she brought to everyone's life.
The family is also requesting that in lieu of flowers, donations be sent to PEO's Scholarship Fund (Chapter TT PEO, Make a Difference Education Fund at 1181 E. Portland Avenue, Fresno, California 93720), an organization that was very near and dear to her heart; or,
sent to Trinity Lutheran Church (3973 North Cedar Avenue, Fresno, California, 93726), a church she considered home.
