Leon Lew Louie

Leon Louie was on born October 20, 1955, in Clovis, California. He was one of nine children and was the third youngest of the group. Leon was raised in Clovis, CA, attending Weldon Elementary School and graduating from Clovis High School, Class of 1973. Leon accepted Christ at the age of thirteen and was baptized with his 3 other brothers by Calvary Bible Church of Clovis. After high school, Leon proudly answered the call to serve his country by joining the United States Navy. As a SeeBee, Leon served in the construction battalion as a builder construction recruit. After the Navy, Leon returned to Fresno and attended Fresno City College for two years while employed as a building framer and then a finish carpenter. His talents eventually led him to Monterey, California, where he was hired by the State of California as a carpenter restoring historical buildings and later employed by the county as a building inspector. He finished his career before retirement working as an estimator for a disaster clean-up company.

Leon would settle in Seaside, CA where he would build his home and spend the rest of his life. His joys were camping, fishing, hiking, cycling and all good things the Monterey area had to offer. One of Leon’s favorite hobbies was restoring his 1969 Corvette convertible. He would eventually complete it and cherished the times when he hit the open road to test out his new suspension. He was an avid San Francisco Giants fan and would, on occasion, invite his brothers and nephew to attend games at Candlestick Park and Pac Bell Stadium. Leon also enjoyed searching the Bay Area for authentic Chinese food.

Leon is survived by 1 sister, 5 brothers, 1 niece, 4 nephews and five sisters-in-law. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hung and June Louie and his older sisters, Linda and Jeannie. Leon is survived by his sister, Helen; his brothers, John and his wife Noy, Larry and his wife Vivian, Jerry and his wife Mely, Sister-in-law Jeanette, Paul and his wife Siewlin, and brother Gary; his niece, Veronica and his nephews, Andrew, Jerry Jr., Winjet, Cooper and his wife Pryia, and Hogan.

Leon spent the last 5 months of his life at Westmont Assisted Living where he was afforded dignity and quality of life by a wonderful staff who displayed grace and patience beyond the norm. He made friends, participated in activities and loved their restaurant quality food. He had a constant stream of visitors from his family and friends and shared quality time with his close friend, Irene. During his last days, Leon was cared for by an exceptional Saint Agnes ICU staff. Their professionalism and attention to care for Leon’s comfort was outstanding.
