Lidia Soto Alaniz was a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother during her 76 years of life. She was surrounded by her family for the weeks leading up to her passing. She passed away peacefully the morning of July 29, 2026.
Lidia was born in Acambaro Guanajuato, Mexico, and is one of seven siblings. She immigrated to the United States in the 1960s, making Fresno, CA her home. She married Alfonso Alaniz in 1968 and raised four beautiful boys. Later being blessed with grandchildren, she called her granddaughters her daughters. She was the matriarch of the Alaniz family.
We will remember Lidia for her loving and caring nature. Serving you with food was how she showed her love. She was always ready to welcome anyone with a warm plate of beans, rice, and handmade tortillas. No one ever left her home hungry. She called everyone her mijo/mija and always made everyone feel loved with her comforting nature. Lidia found joy in the simple things, especially spending time outside in her garden caring for her flowers, “plantitas”. She loved her bright colored roses and could stare out the window for hours just looking at them. She was warm and social, had an unmatched work ethic, never complained, and showed everyone around her what unconditional love truly looks like. She loved her grandchildren more than anything. She had a sparkle in her eye when they walked in, immediately asking “¿Ya comieron?” Followed by “¿Que quieres que te haga?” She not only did this for them, but anyone she came across.
Lidia was a devout Catholic. Her faith was the foundation of her life. She lived her beautiful life not only serving others but serving God, despite her struggles. She dedicated many hours praying the rosary and ensuring her family was guided by strong moral values.
Grandma we love you and miss you. Thank you for being the most loving and caring grandma we could ever ask for.
Lidia is survived by her husband Alfonso Alaniz, four sons and their wives, Alfonso and Rossy, Javier and Linda, Daniel and Bernadette, and David and Suzanne; her grandchildren, Javier, Erika, Michelle, Joseph, Candice, Alex, Michael, Jessica, Eric, and Leo. She also leaves behind many great friends and an extended network of cousins, nieces, and nephews that she loved dearly.
A Rosary will be held at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 355 East Champlain Drive, Fresno, California 93730, on August 17, 2026, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.
Immediately following, a Funeral Mass will be held at Holy Spirit Catholic Church beginning at 10:00 a.m.
Following Lidia's Mass, a Committal will take place at Clovis Cemetery, 305 North Villa Avenue, Clovis, California 93612.
