She was in the first graduating class of Clovis Dry Creek Ele- mentary School in 1949. Marty graduated from Clovis High School in 1953, Reed- ley Junior College in 1956, and Fresno State College in 1959.
After 24 years, she retired from CalTrans, Division of Highway, in 1985, where she was a Highway Engineering Technician.
Marty enjoyed many hobbies, including music, flying planes, photography, softball, animals, traveling, arts and crafts, sewing, and needle work. As she would say: "I'm a has-been at a lot of things".
She succumbed after a long history of illness.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Florence Sanger; husband, John Hawthorne; and nieces, Judy Sanger of Sunnyvalle, CA, and Moria Riley of Fresno, CA.
She is survived by her sister-in-law, Mary Riley of Fresno, CA; niece, Adrienne Riley of San Louis Obispo, CA; her brother, John Sanger of Marysville, CA; niece, Marilyn Sanger of Oroville, CA; and nephew, Michael Sanger of Murfrees- boro, TN.
A Graveside Service will be held at Clovis Cemetery on Wednes- day, April 11, 2018, at 11:00 a.m.
