As a child, Richard spent many summers with his family, including his sister, Mary Lou, at the family cottage in Runyan Lake, Michigan. In his teens, Richard developed a love for cars and motorcycles; a passion he shared with his best friends, Jamo, Bob and Jerry.
Richard met the love of his life, Kay Courter, who happened to be Jerry's sister. They were married in Inkster, Michigan on August 15, 1959, and honeymooned at Niagara Falls.
Richard and Kay lived in Michigan for 45 years in the cities of Livonia and Fenton. There they raised their three children: Bill, Linda and Debbie. Richard worked as a diagnostic technician at the National Cash Register Company in Detroit.
In 1982, the Boroughs made the decision to leave the cold, snow and ice of Michigan behind and they moved to Fresno, California where Richard worked as a senior customer service representative for the California Lottery/GTECH.
Richard was always a dedicated employee who took pride in working hard and respecting his coworkers. He was knowledgeable and creative. He enjoyed many hobbies such as boating, oil and water color painting, playing the guitar, shopping at antique stores, collecting record albums from his favorite music artists, watching classic movies, cheering on his favorite sports teams and spending time at his cabin at Bass Lake. Richard never lost his love of cars and motorcycles; he collected and restored as many as 140 classic cars. He attended many car shows and swap meets, both as a spectator and as an exhibitor. He was a member of several local car clubs and was instrumental in organizing events for the Central California Chapter of the Hudson-Terraplane Club and the Pontiacs of Central California.
Richard was truly a Jack-of-all-Trades and he was willing to help in any way and was always a shoulder to lean on. He was kind, strong, patient, personable, charming, witty and charismatic. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and friend. Richard will continue to be loved and remembered and will live on in the hearts of his family. His life is a legacy of a life well lived.
Richard is survived by his wife, Kay Borough; his son, Bill Borough (Chris); his daughter, Linda Benedict; his daughter, Debbie Vasquez (Steve); his grandchild, Bryce Borough, his grandchild, Breanna Borough, his grandchild, Brittney Schell (Derek), his grandchild, Jamie Benedict, his great-grandchild Olivia Schell, his great-grandchild, Banks Anderson, his nephew, Doug Edgar, his niece, Sharon Edgar, and his great-niece, Ashley Edgar.
