Robert Charles Murdock, 77, passed away on May 23, 2026. Born October 20, 1948, in Santa Monica, California, Robert later made his home in Fresno, California, where his days were filled with the people, music, and small joys he loved most.
Robert had a light, fun way of moving through the world—equal parts gentle presence and playful spark—and he brought that same spirit into everything he enjoyed. He could be found watching YouTube, tinkering with computers, and keeping up with his online groups, always curious, always creating, always finding something interesting to explore.
Robert was very proud of his career and business accolades prior to his retirement. He was formerly the General Manager and then Chief Executive Officer of a manufacturing company called Coast Novelty Manufacturing Co., which was started in Venice, California by his own father. The family business operated for over four decades, from its incorporation in 1962 through its dissolution in 2002. The business operated as manufacturer and supplier specializing in cake decorating products, ornaments, and party goods, with a strong brand presence through its trademark portfolio. Its closure in 2002 marked the end of its corporate activity, but its legacy remains in the cake decorating industry through its registered trademarks.
Music lived in him. Classically trained on the piano, Robert also delighted in the pure, unabashed joy of air drumming to classic rock, turning ordinary moments into something a little more lively. And when it came to travel, he loved the kind that felt like freedom—especially trips to the beach and Hawaii. The seashells he and Linda collected found their way into every room of his home, quiet reminders of sunshine, salt air, and shared adventures.
Robert was devoted to his family and especially cherished time with his grandkids, bringing warmth and steady care to the relationships that mattered most. He also carried a deep appreciation for the opportunities life gave him early on, including a world-traveling cruise that took him to 15 countries—an experience that stayed with him and suited his open, eager spirit.
In the kitchen and at the grill, Robert’s creativity came through in delicious, memorable ways. He loved smoked and grilled meats and he enjoyed tinkering with recipes, making chilis and jambalayas while trying new hot sauces and chasing the perfect bite.
Robert also dearly loved his dog, Trisha, his toy poodle, a loyal companion who shared in the everyday rhythm of home.
Robert was preceded in death by his wife, Linda Murdock; and his parents, Robert & Marie Murdock. He is survived by his children Tom Murdock, Gina Murdock, and James Murdock; his step-sons Craig Fearnside (Kendra) and Kevin Fearnside; and his grandchildren Eric and Brandon.
Though he will be deeply missed, Robert leaves behind a legacy of gentle devotion, creative joy, and the kind of spirited, everyday fun that makes a family’s story brighter—one song, one seashell, one shared meal at a time.
