On June 17, 2023, Robert Vincent Wise, a loving Husband, Father, and Brother, peacefully departed from this mortal life and returned to his heavenly home after a courageous battle with an aggressive form of brain cancer.
Robert, known to his friends and family as Rob, was born on March 10, 1959 in Palo Alto, California, to Robert and Nettie Wise. He spent his childhood in Palo Alto, attending Ortega, Wilbur, Cubberley and when the family moved to Clovis, California. In 1976, he attended Clovis High School. Rob was a California boy through and through.
Rob lived a life filled with boundless adventure. He possessed an incredible sense of excitement and could turn even the scariest and most challenging experiences into enjoyable endeavors. He continuously pushed his limits, fearlessly tackling new activities. Whether it was fixing a car or skateboarding with a sail, he believed he could conquer anything. The only exception was rollercoasters, where his fearless spirit wavered.
Rob's enthusiasm for life was unmatched. He eagerly embraced every new opportunity that came his way and always looked forward to what the future held. As a devoted father, he invested his heart and soul into building a strong relationship with his children.
Among his siblings, Rob was the most tenacious. He overcame adversity and a lifetime of challenges, never wavering in his determination. Although he worked as an electrician, his true calling was simply being Rob. Rob was an avid bike rider, dirt bike enthusiast, windsurfer, skier, motorcycle tinkerer, builder-house flipper, and fixer of things. From his childhood days, if there was a junkyard, you could bet that he would be there, searching for spare parts.
When Rob befriended someone, that bond lasted a lifetime. His laughter would light up the room, accompanied by the sparkle in his sharp blue eyes. He loved intensely and possessed an equal capacity for forgiveness and joy. We often teased him about having nine lives, considering the number of times he broke bones or found himself head-first in a snowbank. Sadly, he only lived 8 lives as cancer called him home.
Rob married Denise Temps on Feb. 22, 1992, and they were blessed with a son, Trevor Wise. Although they later divorced, their shared love for Trevor remained a constant in their lives. On October 3, 2008, Rob found love once again and married Cat Hof, blending their families together. Cat was the love of his life; he loved her with all his heart and Cat was his biggest fan. Her love for him was particularly manifested as she tenderly cared for him during this battle with cancer. He was a loving husband and good Father.
Rob was immensely proud of his role as a father to Trevor Wise of Bend, Oregon and James Kinler (Nancy) Visalia, California, considering them his closest buddies. Whether embarking on bike rides to the coast or engaging in off-road adventures with their dirt bikes and trucks, his sons were always his trusted teammates.
Rob leaves behind a vast circle of friends from Palo Alto and a life well-lived in Fresno. We express our deepest gratitude to the many friends who cared for him during the last weeks of his life. Rob loved you.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Cat, his sons Trevor and James, stepdaughters, Nicole (Jason) and Ericka (Dean), and beloved grandchildren, Austin and Miles, Wyatt, Luke, Dylan and Ava. Rob also leaves behind his brother Jeff Wise (Katherine) of Atherton, California, Nancy Wise Low (Mark) of Highland, Utah, and Janet Wise Bice (David) of American Fork, Utah. Additionally, he is survived by his seventeen nieces and nephews.
Until we see each other again – Robbie- It’s blowin' at the Looie’ and we will feel your spirit in the wind.
There will be a celebration of his life on July 8th, 2023 at 12:00 p.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints meetinghouse, located at 5685 North Cedar Avenue, Fresno, California, 93710
