Roger Dale Plemons, age 64, of Clovis, California went home to the Lord on Tuesday, July 23, 2024. He was born in Springfield, Illinois in January of 1960 to Joe Hurschel and Wanda Mae (Gruver) Plemons.
Roger grew up in central Illinois and was a 1978 graduate from Washington Community High School. Shortly after graduation he joined the United States Air Force. He proudly served his country in an active, reserve and active reserve status with a combined service of 31 years. He received numerous honors, awards and medals during his career in the Air Force. When he retired he had achieved the rank of E-7 Master Sergeant. Roger was also employed and retired from the Boeing Corporation.
Roger loved to serve others. His involvement in community over the course of his life are too numerous to list. One ministry however, stood out for Roger. He found purpose, friendship and family over the last 10 years of his life with the Heart of the Horse Therapy Ranch in Clovis, California. His involvement with the ranch and the horses changed his life as well as impacting others around him along the way. “Vets helping Vets” was a program developed, at the ranch, due in large part to Roger’s personal success story and efforts to help other vets grow in their own recovery from post-traumatic stress disorder. He received recognition in 2023 from the California State Assembly for his volunteer work on the ranch. Roger was a gifted artist in multiple areas. He loved the Lord and lived a life that reflected the light and love of Jesus.
Roger is survived by his brother Rodney Plemons (Shelly) and his sister Rhonda Donnelly (Michael). He is also survived by his nephews and niece Jon, Matt, Eric and Emily.
Roger is preceded in death by hi parents Joe Hurschel Plemons and Wanda Mae Plemons.
Cremation rites have been accorded and, upon approval, burial of his remains will be at Arlington National Cemetery.
A celebration of a life well lived for Roger will be held Saturday, October 19, 2024 at 2:00 PM at Heart of the Horse Therapy Ranch, 14335 Academy Oaks Lane, Clovis, CA 93611.
