  MAN I miss you so much, you taugh me what it meant to be a man and a great person when I was trapped in the most unfortunate situation. I miss and love you so much brother my heart falls apart everyday I think about you. You saved me in more ways than one, I just wish I coulda done the same. I love you Scott, I’ll see you soon brother 

Love u Scotty G, may u rest in paradise and the soul of yours forever live on. You accomplished so much here, by making people smile, by always being there for your homies especially andrew, by finding exactly what you needed in life to be happy. It wasnt enough time for us but god has his ways and I wont ever doubt that you are home, you are at peace. And whoever reading this, just know we will be with him again. Hell be right there at the crossroads waiting, with that warming smile and those soft meaningful hugs. Thank you for all the amazing memories. I will never forget you Mr.Scott Alex Gaffney❤

Hello,

My name is Noah Villaverde, and Im here with you all today to honor the life of one of my earliest childhood friends: Scott Gaffney. 

I was a student at Lincoln Elementary from Fall 2002 - Fall 2004. During my time as a Lincoln Lion, I made a handful of friendships that were far too brief, but will always hold a special place in my heart - one of those friends was Scott. 

Scott and I were cool with each other in the first grade, but it wasnt until second grade when we were in Mrs. Roses class together when we started to become friends. As the shortest boy in the class on top of being geeky and shy, I never felt ashamed to be the way that I was around Scott. He was by far the coolest kid in our class and was always an endearing and welcoming presence when we hung out. 

I vividly remember going to his 7th birthday party when Boomers! was still a thing. Going to his party was a major thing for me because I never hung out with a classmate outside of school before - let alone get invited to a party. I remember handing him his present and hanging with him the whole time playing mini golf and playing this street fighter-style arcade game that he was destroying me with. 

But some of the fondest memories I have with Scott occurred during Recess time. Me, Scott and a few other boys in the class were certainly, well, immature. We were 6 or 7 gimme a break! But I remembered that it was thanks to him and a few other friends that rooted for me to play around and chase our girl classmates to which I would greet them with a suggestive gesture that when looking back, was *not* a good thing. 

But Scott would always laugh with me about these shenanigans we would get ourselves into. It was thanks to him and other friends we shared that I still fondly remember all this even after all these years. 

Unfortunately, our time together as Lincoln Lions would be cut short. My family and I moved to a new neighborhood after my second sister was born in 2004, and I was forced to transfer to Liberty Elementary after Thanksgiving during third grade - ending my time as a Lincoln Lion as well as separating me from the friends I made along the way. 

As my Elementary school years came to an end, I was sent to Granite Ridge instead of Kastner, putting an end to any possibilities  of being classmates with my Lincoln friends. 

I wouldnt interact with Scott for years until he and I became friends on Facebook and followed each other on Twitter. From there, we would occasionally exchange a few words to each other, seeing where life took us despite our separate paths. I would always find his posts relentlessly entertaining and engaging. 

This brings me to the last time I saw him in person. 

It was September 5, 2014. I have the date thanks to Twitter archives. I was at a cross country tournament at Kastner watching my little sister running her mile. I then see a tall guy with an Afro and a smile on his face that instantly took me back 10 years. Wow... it had been ten years since I saw him in person. 

From the smile alone, I knew it was Scott, so I approached him out of both nervousness and excitement. Much to my surprise, he remembered me instantly as he gave me that smile that I am certain everyone in this room had the privilege of receiving from him. We then had an all-too brief catch-up conversation about life and plans since we both just graduated high school three months prior. I was surprised to see that he knew quite a bit about what i was doing at the time and what my passions and interests have been since then. We then parted ways and I later tweeted at him that same day, expressing joy that we reunited, to which he replied, and I quote nice seeing you bro hit me up some time

That was the last interaction we ever shared. 

When I found out about Scotts passing, i was immediately taken back to some of the early childhood memories that have become such a blur to me in recent years. In terms of my elementary years, I mostly remember the upper-grade era when I was at Liberty and some of my early memories at Lincoln sorta faded away - but when I learned about Scott and his friend Brennen, it was like certain, neglected memories crossed my mind for the first time in over 13 years that are now being seen through a different lens. 

It was like in the Pixar movie Inside Out when Joy and Sadness came together to enhance one of Rileys memories, showcasing that sometimes the memories we cherish most incorporate both the emotions of joy and sadness. 

You see, I bring this analogy from a childrens film because in a way, 95% of my memories with Scott were ingrained during the innocence of childhood - when we didnt have to worry about the trials and tribulations of adolescence and coming-of-age experiences for a few more years. 

My memories with Scott will always hold a special place in my heart because our time together occurred during one of the most precious eras a human experiences: childhood. I am bummed Scott and I never got to witness each other come of age and deal with adolescence and high school together - much like many of you in this room may have had the honor of doing. But in a beautiful, bittersweet way I am touched that my memories of Scott will take me back to a less cynical time when all the stresses of growing up and becoming an adult seemed like an entire lifetime away. 

Scott, im sorry I never hit you up to hang since we last saw each other. That will go down as one of my biggest regrets, but whenever my time comes, I hope we can make up for lost time.

Scotty will always have a special place in my heart, I meet him up at China peak ski resort this last year I was the first person he meet and first friend he had up there,even since then weve been great friends since, he was such a special rare soul he was a great friend one of those friends you only find once in a lifetime in this world he will never be forgotten love you Scotty rest in paradise my dear friend

Words cant describe the friendship we had but heres a few first time I met you was in science you helped me out with a little tip on those hot school days and that was to where my back pack looser looks cooler and wont have ur whole back soaking  with sweat and from there the rest was history we been best friends since... I remember picking you up every morning to ride to school and everyday after we walk home together every day for 4 years my life will never be the same with out you Scott you opened so much doors for me from meeting 100s of different people literally 100s I crossed so many peoples paths with Scotty its amazing I remember every Friday Id come over you would have a spot by your bed on the floor with blankets and pillows already ready. you looked out for me when others didnt... he took me in with him when I didnt have a place we had one room that we can call home thanks to raenon we were both arguing with are parents being young and dumb at the time but we always had each other   yes we would argue like every brothers do  but Scott always knew that the friendship we had was worth way more than $20 dollars or any silly thing we would argue about I just know that I wouldnt have spent those years with any one else I love you Scotty you will live thru me and my family for ever

Scotty G. I miss you brother. You were always telling me to stay on the right track. Some times I didnt listen and paid a consequence. But Ill never forget what you would tell me in certain situations. Rest easy. 

Where can I even start. I met this man playing basketball in the same apartment complex my parents lived in, river park place. I met him when he was 16 years old at first it was just another young athletic kid to play basketball with until our friendship grew. It went from playing basketball together maybe twice a month to me seeing him every time I was in Fresno, at the time I was working in Sacramento Monday through Friday. Every weekend when I came into town it was call Scotty and lets get this weekend going. After long weeks at work he knew how to get my mind away from things. He became a bestfriend of mine instantly. I was there for his birthdays and the best one was his 18th. A time of pure fun and being young. I have so many stories to tell about him but its all about being young and dumb and I wouldnt of wanted to be that way with anyone else. I loved this man like a brother. He grew on my family and my family adored him. He was smart, passionate, loving and outgoing would be an understatement. He knew the right words to say whenever I was going through things. He was an old soul in a young mans body. Im gonna miss the weekends where we would skip town and get into whatever we wanted, Im gonna miss the life talks, the smiles, the laughs, the arguments, the jokes, the freestyle rapping in my car and all the love he would give. There isnt a day that is gonna go by where I dont think of this amazing man. Thank you Marlene and George for giving me the opportunity to know this man and sharing this young mans love and his impact he had in my life. Prayers to every family and friend involved.
