Tamiko Mimura

Born on March 3, 1938, in Hanford, California, to the Chono family, Tamiko was a nisei, 2nd generation Japanese American with ancestral roots in Kochi, Japan. She carried the small-town, loving warmth and spirit of her hometown and culture throughout her life.

A proud alumna of Hanford High School, she went on to College of the Sequoias and graduated from Fresno State University. Early in life, she and her family were incarcerated during WWII along with other American citizens of Japanese descent. Professionally, Tamiko built a dedicated career working for the County of Fresno, ultimately retiring after many years of faithful service.

Music was a defining thread throughout Tamiko’s life. A talented pianist, she not only filled her own home with melodies but also shared her passion with others by teaching piano lessons, patiently guiding and inspiring students. Beyond her music, she possessed a gentle compassion for animals, and her home was rarely without the comforting presence of a cherished pet.

Guided by a steadfast Christian faith, Tamiko lived a life rooted in devotion and selflessness. She found purpose in being of service to others, in big and little ways. Above all, her greatest joy was her family. She utterly adored being Grandma Tamiko to her grandsons, pouring her heart into every moment spent with them.

She is survived by her loving children, Shawn Mimura and Brian Mimura, along with her daughter-in-law, Penny, her cherished grandsons, Joshua and Jonah, and her life-long and dearest friend, Amy Wing. Tamiko will be fondly remembered for her friendliness, courage and strength, and loving commitment and service to family and those around her.

A visitation gathering for Tamiko will be held to honor her life and memory on Wednesday, September 9th at the Boice Funeral Home in Clovis, California. Tamiko will be eulogized at 5:15 PM. Visitation / viewing will be available from 4:30 PM to 6:30 PM.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in her honor to a local animal rescue or a charity of your choice.
