Valerie Jean Andrew, 73, of Clovis, California, passed away on June 25, 2026. Born June 10, 1953, Valerie will be remembered with deep respect and lasting affection by all who were fortunate enough to know her.
Valerie attended Culver City High School and later graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in journalism from Cal State Dominguez Hills, as part of their first graduating class. Her work ethic and steady devotion to those she loved were evident throughout her life. She worked alongside her husband in the accounting office, faithfully keeping the books while managing a full and active home. After several years, she devoted herself to caring for others in a new way by opening a daycare—an extension of the generous, attentive spirit that defined her.
She met the love of her life on a blind date at a USC football game, beginning a marriage marked by loyalty, perseverance, and steadfast companionship. Valerie and her husband celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in October 2025, having walked together through life’s joys and hardships, always standing side by side. A Shania Twain song, “Looks Like We Made It,” became “their song,” a fitting reflection of the commitment they shared.
Valerie wore many hats through the years—daughter, sister, wife, mother, and friend—but the title she held highest and cherished most was “gammie.” Her love for family was constant, and her care extended well beyond her own household. She was known for her honest way of speaking—never one to sugar coat the truth—and for the protective, compassionate attention she gave to those around her. She took a genuine interest in the lives of Jessica and Alicia’s friends, questioning them as though they were her own, always hoping they were doing well and staying on the right path. In countless ways, Valerie became “everyone’s mom and grandma,” with a home—and especially a kitchen—open at nearly any hour to nearly anyone.
A fan of the Olympics, Valerie loved how the games brought people together from around the world. That same appreciation for connection showed in everyday life: wherever she went, she delighted in meeting people and talking with those around her, offering warmth, kindness, and a sincere interest that made others feel seen.
Valerie was a 25-year member of the Presbyterian church, where she served as a deacon. With a servant’s heart, she was someone others could lean on. She was also known for thoughtfully acknowledging the lives of others—whether celebrating a marriage or the birth of a baby, or offering comfort in illness or loss—always with a card ready, a steady gesture of care that reflected her selfless nature.
In her later years, Valerie often called in to KFI News Station and became known as “Valerie from Glendale.” She knew the DJs, and the DJs knew her—so much so that many were invited to her 70th birthday party. It was a fitting testament to how naturally she built community wherever she went, and how beloved she was in both ordinary and unexpected places.
Valerie was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Andrew; her parents, Charles and Peggy Reidy; and her brothers, Charles Reidy and Jerry Reidy. She is survived by her daughter, Jessica Badgiue (Yegue) of Clovis, California; her daughter, Alicia Grell (Jeffrey) of Galt, Missouri; her grandson, Peter Badigue; and her granddaughter, Adah Grell.
Valerie’s legacy is one of compassion expressed through action, generosity offered without hesitation, and a steadfast honesty grounded in love. She will be deeply missed and forever cherished.
