Anselmo “Sam” Contreras peacefully left his earthly body and went home to his Heavenly Father and Savior on January 7, 2021 surrounded by his loved ones. Anselmo often talked about the reunion he would have with his son, Jaime “Jim” Contreras, who preceded him in death. Anselmo had lovingly been nicknamed “The King” by Jim.
Anselmo was born on April 21,1943 in SLP, Mexico to Adelaido and Maria de Refugio Perez Contreras. In 1973, he brought his young family to the United States for a better life and moved to Danbury, TX where he worked for Garrett Rice Farms. Later he settled his family in Angleton and began working for Jaco Construction in Clute. He would become a loyal, dedicated, and hardworking employee for 25 years at Jaco Construction. Anselmo’s greatest love was his family and he enjoyed the many get-togethers and celebrations they had. Some of his happiest times were spent on his property in Bailey’s Prairie with his cows, horse, and donkey. He was proud of his pecan, grapefruit, lemon and orange trees. He loved wearing pearl snap shirts and his cowboy hat. He enjoyed driving around town in his black 4x4 truck with his two constant companions, his dogs Lala and Moe.
Anselmo is survived by the love of his life and mother of his children, Irene Contreras, his six children, Olga Strickfaden, Mary (Sammy) Moreno, Betty (Ray) Mendieta, Violet (Kevin) Lemons, Rosa (Keith) Kucera and Anselmo Contreras, Jr. Left to cherish his memory are his “Original Six” grandchildren - Lissa (Royal) Dixon, Ed (Alicia)House, Ashley (Nick) Rice, Kelly House, Joshua (Becca) Wollam, and Andrew (Hannah) Moreno, his “Super Seven” grandchildren - Tiffany and Cecily Morante, Tori and Austin Lemons, Zane Wollam, Kadee Morrow, Ivy Contreras and his “Sweet six” great grandchildren - Aaron House, Jaimelynn and Royal Dixon, Brentlee and Jaylee House, and Charley Rice. Anselmo will also be remembered by numerous family and friends.
Anselmo’s motto was to work hard, drink a cold one, love the Lord our God, and be ready to ‘darle la mano’ (lend a hand).
Anselmo’s final wishes will be honored and a private celebration of life for his immediate family will be held. “But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” Isaiah 40:31
