Carolyn Jean (Evans) Ebey, of Lake Jackson, TX, went home to be with the Lord on April 6, 2021, after battling complications from COVID 19. She was born, in Houston, Texas, on September 20, 1952 and resided here most of her life. She was welcomed to heaven by her beloved son, John Ebey, Jr. She, also, joins her mother, Mary Hardesty; father, Paul Hardesty; stepmother, Betty Hardesty; and siblings, David Hardesty, Thomas Hardesty, Howard Hardesty; Donald Evans; Cece Walder; and Lula Mae Rich.
Carolyn’s greatest joy in life was feeling needed; whether she was caring for a sick family member, providing a listening ear for a friend, driving around her grandchildren, or taking in a stray dog or cat. In her decades of membership at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, she taught CCE, brought food for funeral receptions, and acted as the hands and feet of God in many other ways.
When her children were younger, life was busy with work, school, and a houseful of people. She was usually known as Mom Ebey by her children’s friends. After the kids grew up, she continued to work, volunteer, and care for others. In 2020, she retired after several years as a crossing guard in Freeport. Pandemic isolation was hard for such an outgoing person, but she still found ways to stay close to family and friends.
Her loss is mourned by her children, Shawn and Sarah Ebey of Lake Jackson, Richard and Anna Ebey of Katy, and Sharon and Aaron Zimmerman of Clute; grandchildren, Ashlyn, Mary, Michelle, Hunter and Bryce Ebey; and siblings, Pat Lamont, Joy Cook, Paulette Brown, Mollie Hardesty, Logan Hardesty, and Claude Hardesty. She will also be missed by her many nieces, nephews, and friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations could be made to MD Anderson for research and treatment of Pediatric Osteosarcoma. Carolyn will be interred with her son at Restwood Memorial Cemetery during a private graveside service.
