Charles Leon Ainsworth

Charles Leon Ainsworth of Lake Jackson, Texas was born October 20, 1931 in Lufkin, Texas to Florence Leona (Winthrop) & F. L. Ainsworth and died June 1, 2013 in Houston, Texas at the age of 81 years, 7 months and 12 days. After growing up in East Texas, Charles attended Texas A&M from 1950 to 1951. During college he went to work for DOW Chemical Company and met the love of his life, Charlotte Nadine Webb, in Clute, Texas. They married on June 13, 1953 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and celebrated life together as a faithful, loving couple for almost 60 years. In 1952, he served in the Texas National Guard and later joined the United States Air Force. He was first stationed at Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi then served for a year and a half in Japan where he operated ham radio and Air Traffic Control. During his time in Japan, he and Nadine corresponded only by mail. Upon his return to the States, he was stationed at Carswell Air Force Base in Ft. Worth, Texas. The Air Force was planning to re-deploy him, however due to the birth of their first child; Nadine wrote a letter to the Governor who then rescinded the order. After his service in the Air Force, he returned to DOW where he worked in a number of capacities; he retired as a computer analyst and programmer after 38 years of service. He was active in the Church of Christ, serving as a Deacon, Elder, preacher, and compassionate brother. His hobbies included computers, photography, and family genealogy. He was an avid reader and gifted storyteller. He enjoyed serving as an Editor and artist for the Dow Texas in the 60’s. His love for the area and photography were expressed through his donation of historical documents and photos to the Brazoria County Historical Museum. He was a loving and generous husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend to many. To his wife and children, he was Superman! He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Gary Wayne Ainsworth. He is survived by his wife, Nadine; daughters, Debra Denise Vernor, Cynthia Diann Turney, Patricia Lynn DeVille, Laura Lee Chapin; brothers, Thomas Ray Ainsworth, Travis Lee Ainsworth; sisters, Melba Joyce Anthony, Helen LaRue Bryan, Betty Ruth Riley; seven grandchildren, six great grand children, and numerous beloved nieces and nephews.
