We remember with joy Clara Leshikar, who passed away peacefully on Monday, January 22, 2024 at home covered in prayer by her friends and family. She was born January 7, 1939 to R.C. and Anita May in Sealy, Texas. After growing up in the Brazosport area, she met and married the love of her life, Edward William Leshikar, in 1959. Together, they loved, lived, worked, served, and worshiped while raising a family in Lake Jackson.
Clara was a welcoming hostess with an infectious smile and a servant’s heart. She, with her husband and close friends, made many contributions to the Brazosport area, including discussion leader of Bible Study Fellowship, active member of the First United Methodist Church and more recently Covenant Evangelical Presbyterian Church, supporter, caseworker and dispatcher of Society of St. Stephen, charter member of Junior Service League, and active member of Chapter FW of P.E.O. “Well done, good and faithful servant!” Matthew 25:23.
In addition to her grandchildren, Clara loved travel with her friends and family, Bible Study, tackling crossword puzzles, and almost all parlor and board games. She also used her time and energy encouraging others and helping people in a bouquet of ways.
Clara will be missed by her surviving children, Steven & Christine Leshikar of Lake Jackson, Judith Leshikar of Sealy and Beth & Brett Neely of Austin, as well as her beloved grandchildren Amanda & James Leito, Elizabeth Leshikar, Blake & Ally Brannan, Travis Brannan and Scott Neely in addition to great grandchildren Jay Leito, Olivia Leito, Eloise Brannan and Everett Brannan. Clara is also survived by her dear sister, Jo Ann Williams of Lake Jackson. Her family will miss her smiles, her hugs, her generous and kind spirit, her never ending love, support and prayers, as well as her fun and loving nature.
Clara was preceded in death by her parents, loving husband, Edward William Leshikar and grandson, David William Leshikar.
Clara’s death was unexpected as last year began, yet she handled her series of misfortunate ailments due to “old age and bad luck” with dignity, grace and selflessness through her faith.
Funeral arrangements are in the care of Restwood Funeral Home, on Plantation Drive. A service celebrating her life at 11:00am on Saturday, January 27, 2024 will be held at Covenant Evangelical Presbyterian Church on Yaupon, reception following. For those wishing to make donations, please consider these that meant so much to Clara: Covenant Evangelical Presbyterian Church and the Society of St. Stephen c/o Chapelwood United Methodist Church in Lake Jackson, Texas.
