Dawn White, 83, passed away peacefully in Colorado Springs, Colorado, on April 23 after a lengthy battle with dementia. She is remembered for her warmth, faith, and devotion to family. Dementia takes a loved one twice—first at diagnosis and again when they finally return home—and Dawn is now at peace.
Dawn was born January 2, 1943, in Freeport, Texas, to Lee Woodrow Ward and Avis Taylor Ward. She grew up in Freeport and graduated from Brazosport High School in 1961, where she sang in the choir and met her future husband, Jimmy C. White.
Dawn married the love of her life, Jimmy Charles White, in January 1962 in Freeport, Texas. They raised three children: Betsy Diane, Ginny Lee, and Jimmy Charles. Dawn stood by Jimmy’s side during his career at Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas, and worked at James F. Bay Elementary School. The couple served the Seabrook community through First Baptist Church of Seabrook, the City Council, Scouting, and local sports organizations. Their love story was one for the ages, and Dawn’s heart never fully recovered after Jimmy’s passing in 2009.
Known for the beautiful and delicious wedding and birthday cakes she made for friends and family, Dawn poured love into everything she created.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lee Woodrow Ward and Avis Taylor Ward; her husband, Jimmy C. White; brother Lee Taylor Ward; son Charles Hamon White; brother-in-law Newell White; and grandson Brandon Michael Morrison.
Dawn is survived by her children Betsy Diane White (wife Dee Hiatt), Ginny Lee White (wife Sandy Morrison), and Jay White (wife Heather White); grandchildren McKenna Dawn, Caeli Elizabeth, and Kaelyn Sandra (Jay & Heather); sisters in law Lorene White (Henry) and Emily Ward (Lee Taylor); Sarah Morrison and Matthew Morrison (Ginny & Sandy); nieces Patti Woods and Katie Tolchin; nephews John, Chip, and Randy Hawkins and Lee Perry Ward; and her beloved dog, Rico.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to Marsha and Tom Stacy for lifelong friendship and loving care; friends Tiffany and Dale Heathcock; caregiver and longtime friend Tara Hill; and the staff at MaKenzie Place for their excellent care and compassion during Dawn’s final years.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Restwood Funeral Home, 1038 W. Plantation Dr., Clute, TX, on May 16, 2026, at 11:00 am.
