Dee Manfred Rambo went to be with the Lord on Sunday, June 19, 2022, after a long, courageous battle with aggressive cancer. His positive attitude and loving disposition were evident even in his final days. Dee was born in Munich, Germany on March 27, 1956, and arrived in the United States to join his parents, George Rambo and Jean Rambo, at the age of 3. Dee was a long-time resident of Lake Jackson, Texas, where he raised two children with his wife, Nelda. They later retired in Angleton, Texas before settling in East Bernard, Texas to be closer to family.
As a young child, Dee spent his days playing outside with his friends in the Oak Drive neighborhood. Growing up, Dee enjoyed swimming at Riverside Country Club, which in turn led to his participation with the Brazoswood High School swim team. It was during his time on the swim team that Dee met his lifelong best friend, Buddy Gray. During his high school years, Dee also enjoyed playing pool and working at the Prude Ranch to ride and break in horses. Following his graduation from high school, Dee attended and graduated from Abilene Christian University, where he met his wife, Nelda.
Dee was passionate about serving the community, which started at the age of 12 when he began working with his father at Rambo’s Furniture. It was at Rambo’s Furniture where Dee learned his hard work ethic, which continued in his role as Owner/Operator with his wife, Nelda, until their retirement in 2019. As young professionals, Dee and Nelda were active in the Lake Jackson Church of Christ Young Married class. Dee also served as a Deacon and helped oversee the finances at the Church. Dee also served as a member of the Rotary Club in his early adulthood.
Dee was at his happiest when he was spending time with his family. He was always supportive of his children and grandchildren in their activities, especially when watching his son and grandchildren play baseball. His love of baseball continued throughout his life and he was a lifelong Astros fan. If there was an Astros game on TV, Dee was sure to be watching in his favorite recliner. Dee was also passionate about sports cars and he was excited to carry out his dream of owning a Corvette. Dee will be remembered for his generous nature, willingness to help anyone in their time of need, and trademark sense of humor.
Dee is preceded in death by his father, George Rambo. Dee is survived by his mother, Jean Rambo, of Lake Jackson, Texas. He is also survived by his wife, Nelda Rambo, and his children, Hollie Young and her husband Chris of East Bernard, Texas, as well as Josh Rambo and his wife Alison of Porter, Texas.
Dee is also survived by his 3 grandchildren, Luke Young, Landry Young, and Madison Rambo. He is also survived by numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
There will be a memorial service to celebrate Dee’s life.
