OBITUARY
Douglas Dougie Whitney Strickland
April 25, 1970 – February 16, 2014
It is with the greatest of sorrows that we must announce the passing of our son, brother, uncle, nephew and cousin Douglas Whitney Strickland. Dougie was loved by all. He had a heart of gold and not a mean bone in his body.
Dougie was born April 25, 1970 in Greenville, Texas. He died at MD Anderson hospital in Houston on Sunday February 16, 2014.
Dougie worked for Red Lobster for 24 years. He was proud to be an employee of Red Lobster and always wanted a party to celebrate his anniversaries there.
Dougie was a familiar face at the Brazos Mall. He had many friends at the mall and liked to make daily rounds to say "Hi". He loved to report the opening of new stores and was always puzzled when a store would close. His friend Joe Saavedra at Jewelry Services was an extra special friend who took Dougie to car events, movies and dinners out.
Dougie was a fan of the Houston Texans. He enjoyed baseball and was pleased to be singled out as a "Most Interesting Fan" at a Sugarland Skeeters game. In addition to football and baseball, Dougie liked UFC fighting and car racing - NASCAR and Hot Rod.
Dougie participated in Special Olympics. He was a medal winner in Bowling, Swimming, and Bocce Ball.
Dougie was greeted in Heaven by his grandparents and his aunts - Sue and Faye.
He was such a special man that his good attitude, sense of humor, and love of life will be missed by all who knew him.
He leaves behind parents Jim and Chris, his siblings Melissa, Andy (and Alicia), Matt (and Samantha); nieces Abbi, Anna, and Sarah; and nephews Will and Drew. Dougie has numerous aunts, uncles and cousins and loved being with all of them.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that remembrance be made to Special Olympics. Donations can be made to the area office by check or credit card. If by credit card they will need to call 281 218 6024. If they mail a check it will be to: Special Olympics Texas 1335 Regents Park Dr #110 Houston, Tx. 77058
Everybody loves Dougie.

Dougie was always an inspiration to me, and he will be forever. I wish i could be there today to say goodbye in person, but my own cancer treatment calls. Love to all the Stricklands today and always. What a blessing you all were in Dougie's life, and he in yours.

Dougie loved to come out and watch our softball games on Friday nights. He wasn't able to come this summer, but he would always call and ask when we were playing. He was our biggest fan, and we will all miss him dearly.

I am so sorry for your loss. The pictures are a nice tribute to a person that always had a smile on his face. There is a lyric to a song that reminds me of Doug. " Everlasting, your light will shine when all else fades" Your family are in my thoughts and prayers.
