Elizabeth (Beth) was born on December 30, 1950, in Silver Spring, Maryland, to the late Charles William Porter and Ruth Helen Shirt-Porter.
Beth moved to State College, Pennsylvania, at the age of five and attended the State College Area Schools until she graduated from high school in 1968. She walked to school every day, even in the snow and yes, there were hills both ways.
Beth attended Penn State University for two years and transferred to the University of Maryland, College Park, Maryland, graduating in 1972 with a BA degree in Government and Politics.
Beth worked as a commercial lines insurance broker in Washington, DC, Virginia, and Maryland for forty years. She moved to Lake Jackson in 2009.
Beth loved to travel, especially a special trip to Europe to witness the wedding of a life-long friend from State College, many road trips to New England, and a special sister road trip to her fiftieth high school reunion in State College, Pennsylvania. When travel was no longer possible for her, Beth reached out to friends, family, and cousins through social media. She loved sharing photographs of gardens, flowers, and Chihuly glass sculptures located in her favorite places to visit. She lived every day to provide joy and encouragement to others.
Beth is survived by her sister, Barbara Porter Fratila; brother-in-law, Nick Fratila; nephew, Lt. Col. (Ret.) Scott Charles Martin, his wife, Dr. Rebecca Bridges Martin, CPA, DBA, and grand-nephew, Jesse Charles Martin, of Columbia, Maryland.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on October 11, 2025 at Covenant Evangelical Presbyterian Church (102 Yaupon St, Lake Jackson, TX 77566).
