Erik Olushola Omogbehin passed away February 26, 2019 at 21 years of age while attending college in Dallas. He was born on February 28, 1997 to Stephen and Donna Omogbehin in Richwood, TX. Erik was a loving, kind, and helpful son. He would often cook, clean, grocery shop, and run errands. He enjoyed finding new recipes and experimenting in the kitchen.

On his mom’s side … being one of the first grandsons, he was a joy to all. One of his favorite phrases as a toddler was, in his whinny voice, “I want to play! No one will play with me!”. That would soon change as he became a big brother and cousin to 11 others … all boys except one. Some of the things he enjoyed when he was young were reading and building with Legos. When he was very young, he claimed to not like cheese, but his favorite food was pizza … therefore there was no such thing as “cheese” pizza … only plain pizza.

He enjoyed playing video games with his brother, Kevin and the older cousins, Julian, Jack and Logan, but he always made time for the younger ones, Zackary, Ethan, Mark and Gabriel, too. They were always excited when “Cousin Erik” came over. They knew it meant “cheese” pizza and video games.

He attended Brazosport College and received his Associates of Science. He was recognized in 2017 as a Distinguished Student for Brazosport College, which is based on academic performance, good citizenship qualities, participation and leaderships on campus, state and national organization and faculty/staff feedback. At Brazosport College, he was very involved in theater. It was said of him, “The theater was always brighter when he was there … whether he was on the stage or behind the curtain.”

At the University of Texas at Dallas, he was working on his Bachelors of Computer Engineering and pursue a career in robotics. “He was highly regarded, well-liked and an important member of the Scholar family at UT Dallas.”

He is preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Mary Linda Gernand (d.2011) and paternal grandmother, Cristiana Omogbehin (Grandma d. 1980).

Erik will be missed everyday by his father, Stephen (Somerset, NJ); mother, Donna Darlene Omogbehin (Richwood, TX); and brother Kevin Oluwole Omogbehin; Esther Omogbehin-Ajayi (Aunt), Joshua Ajayi (Uncle), Anthony Omogbehin (Uncle), Dupe Omogbehin - Olokpa (Aunt), Shola Omogbehin (Uncle), Ronke Omogbehin (Aunt), Damilola Ajayi (Cousin), Doyin Ajayi (Cousin), Dayo Ajayi (Cousin), Mayomi Omogbehin (Cousin), Ina Omogbehin (Stepmother), Michael Omogbehin (Brother), Jethro Omogbehin (Grandpa), Jasmine Omogbehin (Cousin), Seyi Omogbehin (Cousin), Nikita Collins- Omogbehin (Cousin), Timi Akintoye (Cousin), Daniel Gernand (Grandpa), Ester Gernand (Mamá) Stephen Gernand (Uncle), Claudia Gernand (Aunt), Zackary Gernand (Cousin), Ethan Gernand (Cousin), Mark Gernand (Cousin), Tricia Gernand (Aunt), Becky Gernand (Aunt), Paul Gernand (Uncle), Kesia Gernand (Aunt), (Julian Gernand (Cousin), Jackson Gernand (Cousin), Danny Gernand (Uncle); CC Gernand (Aunt), Logan Heidik (Cousin), Gabriel Gernand (Cousin), Karon Jones (Aunt), Lincoln Robinson (Cousin), Carmen Sedillo (Aunt), Samuel Sedillo (Uncle), Marian Ortiz (Aunt), Javier Martinez (Uncle), Carolina Martinez (Cousin), Lucas Martinez (Cousin), Javier Esteban Martinez (Cousin), Esther Ortiz (Aunt), Carlos Fabra (Uncle), Donald Ortiz (Uncle), Angelly de Ortiz (Aunt), Daniel Ortiz (Cousin), Mauricio Ortiz (Uncle), Camilla de Ortiz (Aunt)

ADD A MEMORY

I had the pleasure of working with Erik in the theater, both directing him and acting along side him. He was a joy to work with in both capacities. He had wonderful comedic timing and stage presence.

Off -stage he was a wonderful person. I can't remember a time when he had a negative word for anyone.

My experience with him is limited compared to most - I just wish I got to know him better.

He will be missed.

I met Erik my freshman year of high school and I remember how kind and sweet he was. He always loved to help out. My favorite memory of him was that he would always give the best hugs.

I remember him being a very kind and helpful student. Was the type that would stay after to help a fellow student or teacher. I'm truly sorry for your family's earthly loss...I will pray that you cling to faith and friends as you all process this passing.

I remember meeting Erik late into my freshman year of high school, and the two of us became great friends. In theatre, he was always ready to help out and did outstanding work. He was funny, kind, and witty. You will be missed.
