OBITUARY

Floyd Raford Mette

August 26, 1932May 2, 2019

Floyd Raford Mette passed in peace at the age of 86. He went to be with his Lord and Savior, May 2, 2019. Floyd was born in Palmyra, Missouri to Raymond J. Mette and Anna Kuntemeyer Mette August 26, 1932.

Floyd will be missed by many that enjoyed his quick humor and genuine, kind heartedness. He graduated from Palmyra High School in 1950, where he met his devoted wife, Carolyn E. Howell, who he married September 6, 1953. Carolyn stood faithfully by his side through 65 years of marriage and his long courageous battle of Parkinson’s disease, with much compassion and love. To the marriage, two daughters were born, Cynthia Sue and Sharon Lynn. Floyd was a loving father, proud grandfather, and great grandfather.

Floyd was a lifelong grain and livestock farmer, designating the family farm “The Sue-Lynn Farms.” He was conscientious in raising Registered Polled Shorthorn Cattle for breeding and showing purposes. Floyd was driven with the vision to improve the Registered Polled Shorthorns genetics through selective breeding of seed stock. He served on committees that founded the Performance Tested Bull sales in Palmyra, Mo. He also participated and sold bulls in the University of Missouri Performance Tested Bull Sales. In 1978 Floyd received the Missouri Beef Cattle Improvement Award for his leadership and dedication to the genetic improvement of beef cattle. He also received many Grand Champions and other various awards at local county and state fairs for the cattle that he had raised.

Floyd gave back to the community and younger generations as a 4-H Leader as he enjoyed mentoring 4-H youth who were getting started in the farming profession. After retiring from farm life, he moved with Carolyn to Lake Jackson, Texas to be near his family. There he also worked with his daughter, Sharon, at her co-founded company, Skyline Technologies, LLC. There he was known as ‘Pops’. While living in Lake Jackson, Floyd continued to support youth in 4-H and FFA by sponsoring calves for the calf scramble at the Brazoria County Fair. He thoroughly enjoyed receiving and reading the letters from the winners.

He was a faithful member of Zion Lutheran Church in Palmyra and St. Mark’s Lutheran in Lake Jackson, Tx.
