Gladys was born on July 16, 1940, in Needville, Texas, to the late Ernest and Olga Poehls. She grew up surrounded by family and carried those close bonds with her throughout her life. Gladys was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend whose love for her family was evident in everything she did.
She was blessed to witness five generations of family and cherished time spent with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchild. Gladys enjoyed traveling, shopping, dining out with loved ones, and relaxing with a good novel. Her warmth, generosity, and quiet strength will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Olga Poehls; her beloved husband, Wilfred Benson Lewis; her brother, Wilbert Poehls; and her sister, Janette Poehls Hewett.
Gladys is survived by her daughter, Thelma Lewis Turk (Mike); her sons, Benny Lewis (Jori) and Steve Lewis (Hope); her brothers, Lee Poehls and Ernest Poehls; her sisters, Barbara Frey and Linda Phelps; her grandchildren; great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and other cherished family members and friends.
The celebration of Gladys’s life will be held at Restwood Funeral Home in Clute, Texas, Thursday, December 18th, 1:00 pm, and will be officiated by Buddy Dudley.
Pallbearers to include Trenton Lewis, Elijah Lewis, Gabriel Lewis, Mathew Collard, Korben Mitchell, Macauley Navarro.
Gladys’s legacy of love, family, and kindness will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.
