Heberto Jose Garza, Jr., (Herbert) 69, entered into eternal rest on January 17,2021. Herbert was in the battle of his life fighting against the devastating COVID-19. His heavenly father took him into his loving arms healing his body from this deadly virus. He is survived by his loving wife, Sandra Castillo Garza. Herbert and Sandra began their life together forty-six years ago. They had four beautiful daughters who were the light of his life: Lorena, Amanda, Lesley, and Andrea Garza. Herbert was also “best grandpa ever” to his beloved grandchildren Trinity Garza and Aiden Guillen.
Herbert was born in October 1951 in Edinburg, Tx. to Heberto Jose Garza, Sr. and Fidela Salazar Garza. The eldest of four children, Herbert is also survived by his loving mother and three sisters who loved him very much: Aminta (Enrique) Silva, Alma (Agapito) Vargas and Annabelle (Carlos) Fernandez. Herbert was a very loving uncle to his three nieces and four nephews as well as his great nieces/nephews. He was an important part of the lives of his many cousins, aunts and uncles. He was a truly kind and loving man who made a great impact on the lives of his whole family. Herbert was preceded in death by his father and father/mother in-law Pedro and Angelita Castillo.
Herbert was raised in La Villa, Tx. and graduated from Edcouch-Elsa High School in 1971. He was a proud athlete and represented his school as a member of the football, basketball, and baseball teams. His proudest accomplishment as a Yellowjacket was when he and his baseball teammates reached the 16AAA quarter finals in 1971. Herbert continued to follow the Jackets until he passed away.
Herbert worked for DOW Chemical Co. in Freeport, Tx. since August 20, 1979 in the Marine Department. He worked there up until the time of his illness. Herbert was a great cook and enjoyed taking care of his work family/friends.
Pallbearers will be cousins Monty Ransom, Hugh Sample, Leroy Salazar, Joel Salazar and nephews Rick Silva, Luis Garza, Gabriel Silva, Jaime Castillo, Noe Gonzalez. His grandson Aiden Guillen will be an honorary pallbearer.
Viewing will be held at Dignity Memorial in Clute on Plantation Drive from 6-8PM on Friday evening. A service will be held at St. Jerome’s Catholic church in Clute at 10:30AM on Saturday. Due to limited seating available at the church we invite you to join us via livestream on Facebook. Burial services will commence at Restwood Memorial behind dignity funeral home at 11:30AM.
