James was born to William and Martha Oury on April 28, 1924 in Little Rock, Arkansas.
At the age of 19 he went to work in the Richmond Ship Yard in Richmond, CA, building liberty ships for the war effort. After the war, he returned to Little Rock, Arkansas and married his wife, Dorthy Louise Hill. He subsequently moved to Texas City, Texas, to work in the chemical industry. He moved to the Brazosport area with his family in 1953 where he hired on as an operator at Dow Chemical. He worked for Dow for 28 years and retired in 1982. James and his wife became avid tennis players along with long- time friend Richard Ledet. He also enjoyed swimming, going to the beach with the family, barbequing in the back yard and was very supportive of his children’s sports, especially girls softball.
James was preceded in death by his parents William and Martha Oury; sisters Martha Hart and Francis Morphew; brother William Oury; James is survived by his children, daughters Kathleen Oury Weatherford, Randi Oury, Mary Oury Stanulonis and husband (Anthony); sons Mark Oury and wife (Jenny), Paul Oury and wife (Diane), and James Oury; grandchildren, Hannah, Tasha, Marlena, Steven, Robert, Cassie, Jonnie and Dustin.
