James Robert “Jim” Patton, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and friend to many passed away early Tuesday July 29, 2025. Jim was born on April 23, 1939, in Pryor, Oklahoma, the only son of James Marquis Patton and Lois Winters Patton. He graduated from high school in New Mexico in 1957 and later earned his degree in chemical engineering from what is now known as New Mexico State University.
He began his career with Dow Chemical, where he worked for 23 years. During his tenure, Jim traveled extensively across the globe and played an integral role in opening several chemical plants. While at Dow, he married Sharon Harrison, and together they welcomed their beloved son, James Gregory Patton. After leaving Dow, he pursued his entrepreneurial dreams by founding Southwest G&A, a successful business that reflected his drive and ingenuity.
In August 1987, Jim married the love of his life, Sherry Meek Patton. Over the course of 38 wonderful years together, they shared countless adventures, traveling near and far with family and friends. Jim loved football, going to see his son play for the Texas Longhorns; he was a longhorn fan all of his life. Jim had a passion for his dogs, driving his Motorcoach, cruising, and was known for his intelligence, quick wit and love of telling jokes, always bringing laughter to those around him.
Jim is survived by his wife Sherry, son James Gregory Patton and wife Cara Patton, along with their three children Ava, Carys, and Porter Patton; his stepdaughter Amy Diane Moyle and husband Booney Moyle, and their two children Boone and Sloan Moyle and wife Jordan Moyle; and his great-granddaughter Maybel Drew Moyle. He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and cherished memories.
A Visitation for Jim's will be held Tuesday, August 5, 2025 from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM at Restwood Funeral Home & Memorial Park, 1038 W. Plantation Dr, Clute, TX 77531. A Celebration of Jim's life will occur Tuesday, August 5, 2025 Starting at 11:30 AM followed by a graveside service. Flowers to be sent to the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Booney Moyle, Boone Moyle, Sloan Moyle, Luis Lopez, Daniel Lopez, Jimmy Christophe, and honorary pallbearer Fred Bloss.
