Jimmie Carroll Ward, also known as Judge Ward, or Daddy Jim aged 85 years young of Clute Texas passed away on 05/28/2024. Daddy Jim was born to Joseph Carroll and Naomi Ward in Phoenix Arizona in 1938. He wasn’t born in Texas but got here as fast as he could. Daddy Jim was married to Betty Jean (Granny Betty) Lanier on April 05,1963.
Dad followed in his father’s footsteps and went to work for Southwestern Bell Telephone. He retired at age 59 to pursue his passion of hunting and travelling with Granny Betty. Daddy Jim was an avid hunter and truly enjoyed his Elk hunting trips to Colorado every October. I think he enjoyed them mostly because he could be away from the rigors of life. His children and grandchildren kept him busy, probably why he was the Municipal Judge in Clute for many years.
Dad worked hard to provide for his family. He had many rental properties, a carwash, and a full-time job. He used these properties to teach us kids the value of a work ethic and if you wanted anything out of life you had to work for it. I think the real reason was we were cheap labor and if you came home drunk on Friday or Saturday be prepared to paint or hang sheetrock in a rent house without AC. Paint fumes ain’t a joke at 7 am and hungover.
Dad taught us many lessons throughout his life, whether it was by example or with stern, fair discipline. The longest walk of my life was, “go get me a switch boy.” Yes I deserved every one I got.
He was committed to helping his fellow person. He proved this as a union steward for many years while employed for the phone company.
For the last couple years Dad was attended to by many folks from Help inc. We are greatly appreciative of Kristen Holcombe, Jessie Gee and Louella Wright. Also, the many office folks behind the scenes
Daddy Jim was a son, a father, a brother, an uncle, and a hunting buddy. He had an ear and a shoulder to anyone that needed it. I learned a lot about life sitting in a duck blind with him.
Dad was preceded in death by his parents Joe and Naomi, wife Betty, son “Brother” Jimmie, and daughter Shannon.
He is survived by his Brother Kenneth Ward, his daughter Cheryl Young, and his son Joel /wife Monika.
Nephew Michael Ward, Niece Julie Hancock. Grandchildren: Cullen Young, Joey Kelpen, Jimmie Lynn Murray, Brent Davis(wife Christen) Hunter Ward, Savanna (husband Aaron) Mulhollan, and Hanna Ward. And also a few great grandchildren.
A visitation for Jimmie will be held Friday, May 31, 2024 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Restwood Funeral Home. A celebration of jimmie's life will occur Saturday, June 1, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Restwood Funeral Home.
