

Joe C. Martinez, Jr., of Oyster Creek, Texas was born, Monday, July 21, 1947 in Olivia, Texas to Elvira (Rodriguez) and Joe C. Martinez, Sr. and he passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 23, 2012 in Sweeny, after a long battle with dementia, at the age of 65 years, 3 months and 2 days. Joe was raised in Palacios, Texas and after high school, entered the United States Army and served in Vietnam from 1968 to 1970. During his tour of duty he received the Purple Heart and Air Medal. He began working for DOW in 1971 until his retirement and had been a resident of the Brazosport area for 42 years. He enjoyed working on cars, doing carpentry work, fishing, shooting pool, was an avid fan of the Dallas Cowboys and held a special fondness for Tejano music. He was of the Catholic faith. Joe is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Pete Martinez, Sr., Lino Martinez, Sr., Louis Martinez, Sr.; infant sister, Mary Jane Martinez and step-son, John Edward Reyes. He is survived by his wife, Dora (Torres) Martinez; sons, Joe Martinez III, Louis Raul Martinez; step-sons, Daniel Reyes, Gilbert Reyes; brothers, Victor Martinez, Sr., Jesse Martinez, Sr., Johnny Martinez, Roy Martinez, William Martinez; sisters, Mary Rodriguez, Sally Bermea; 4 granddaughters; 1 grandson and 1 great granddaughter. Family will receive friends Saturday, October 27, 2012 at Restwood Funeral Home from 9 until 10:30 am. A Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be at 10:30 am followed by a memorial service at 11:00 am Saturday, October 27, 2012 in the Restwood Funeral Home Chapel.
