John Laurence Bailey Jr., 66, of Lake Jackson, Texas went to be with the Lord on July 22, 2022. He was born in Texas City, Texas on January 2, 1956, to the late John Laurence Bailey Sr and the late Dorothy Ben Hanly. He married Glena Walker Bailey on June 9, 1978, in the First Christian Church in Dickinson, Texas.
Known to family and friends as Johnny, he graduated from Sweeny High School in 1974 and enlisted in the United States Air Force. During his enlistment he earned an electronics certification.
Johnny was employed by SECO as an electrical Superintendent responsible for the installation of the electrical equipment on the unmanned offshore oil rigs. He changed careers to work for Conoco Phillips as an electrician in the Sweeny Complex when he and Glena started their family.
Johnny enjoyed playing video games with his sons and their friends. He had an infectious smile, a sense of humor which kept everyone laughing and he was the prankster in the family. He never met a stranger and made everyone feel welcome.
Johnny met Glena during their early childhood years and reconnected when he was nineteen and Glena was fifteen. He dated Glena for three ½ years and married the week after she turned eighteen. They were together for forty-seven ½ years and just celebrated their 44th Wedding Anniversary. Due to Johnny being in the hospital for their 44th he surprised Glena by having the Hospital Chaplain perform a vow renewal ceremony in his hospital room.
Johnny is preceded in death by his father, John Laurence Bailey Sr., his mother, Dorothy Ben Hanly, Stepfather, AC Hanly and younger brother, William Robert “Bobby” Bailey.
He is survived by his wife, Glena Walker Bailey; his four children, Jonathan Dwayne (Jennifer) Bailey, Laura Leigh Hancock, Elizabeth Leanne (Bobby) Barr and Garth Aaron (Amanda) Bailey; grandchildren, Dane, Arya, Lillian, Dallas, Madalyn, Abigail, Carter, Savannah, Wesley, Grant, and Caleb; great grandchild: Owen; siblings, Eddie (Judy) Bailey and Debbie (Ed) Schroeder.
