

Kevin Leonard Johnson, 65, of Lake Jackson, Texas, transitioned to his eternal resting place on October 22, 2023, surrounded by his immediate family. Kevin was born on May 17, 1958, at the Dow Hospital in Freeport, Texas, and was the son of Dr. Oscar Leonard Johnson and Patricia Williamson Johnson.
Kevin was a 1976 graduate of Brazoswood High School. He attended the University of Texas in Austin where he was involved in many organizations. He graduated from UT in 1982 with a finance degree. He attended Southern Methodist University’s graduate school of banking earning his master’s degree in 1996.
Kevin married Cheryl Lynn Krenek of Angleton, Texas, on July 11, 1987 at First United Methodist Church in Lake Jackson, Texas. They were blessed with the birth of their son, Kane, in 1999 and enjoyed over 37 years of marriage.
As an active member of the financial community, Kevin held positions at Austin National Bank, First Commerce Bank, Brazosport Bank of Texas, Texas Gulf Bank, and First Prosperity Bank. In 2000, Kevin opened his Edward Jones Wealth Management practice in Lake Jackson, Texas, and advised friends and clients for over 23 years.
Numerous local organizations benefited from his involvement including Brazosport Noon Lions Club, Board Member and MYF Sponsor of the First United Methodist Church, Junior Achievement Board, President of the Brazoria County Texas Exes, Library Board, President of the Lake Jackson Swim Team, and Brazoswood Aquatics President. As a board member for the Brazoria County SPCA, Kevin helped play an integral part in negotiating the shelter move from Angleton to Lake Jackson.
A dedicated husband and father, Kevin enjoyed traveling, snow skiing, scuba diving, cycling, tennis, ping pong, running, and supporting his son’s participation in sports such as competitive swimming and water polo. All who knew Kevin know that his love of Longhorn football played a major role in his life. He traveled to many games in other states with the highlight being attending the national championship game in 2005.
Kevin is preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Oscar Johnson and Pat Johnson (Jim Cummings); mother-in-law Francis Krenek; and great nephew , Addison Johnson Jr.
Kevin is survived by his wife Cheryl; his son Kane (Emery) of Lake Jackson; his brothers Kent Johnson (Karis) of Charleston, South Carolina, Coke Johnson (Diana) of San Antonio, Texas; nephews Addison Johnson (Ellen), of Charleston, South Carolina, Connor Johnson of Charleston, South Carolina, and Jake Johnson (Samantha), of Floresville, Texas; nieces Alyssa Pelt (Mason), of Needville, Texas, Kier Pelt of Deer Park, Texas, and Jennabeth Johnson (Carson), of Bulverde, Texas; sister-in-law Teresa Pelt, and husband Randy, of Houston, Texas; and father-in-law, Frank Krenek of Angleton, Texas.
Honorary Pallbearers are Kane Johnson, Addison Johnson, Connor Johnson, Jake Johnson, Mason Meuth, Carson Keller, and John David Leeper.
The Celebration of Life will be held Monday, October 30, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. at Brazos Pointe Fellowship with a reception following at The Local in downtown Lake Jackson.
