

Larry Paul Brannon, of Lake Jackson, was born, Monday, August 1, 1938 in Sulphur, Louisiana to Paul William and Opal Mae Simmons Brannon. He passed away on Thursday, September 22, 2011 in Lake Jackson at the age of 73. Mr. Brannon grew up in Houston, Texas and as a child he enjoyed scouting and reading comic books. As a young man, he served four years in the United States Navy with the Commandant Eighth Naval District. On August 17, 1962, Larry married the love of his life, Patricia Ann Holster, at the County Courthouse in Galveston, Texas. They enjoyed 49 wonderful years of marriage. Larry and Pat have three children and five grandchildren. They were a source of great pride for Larry, and he loved them dearly. During his career, Larry worked, as a computer programmer for NASA, Upjohn and Dow Chemical Company. He retired from Dow in 2003. Early in his career, while working full time and raising his family, Larry attended the University of Houston and graduated in 1971 with an English degree. One of his favorite courses was Folk Lore. Many of Larry’s pleasures were doing crossword puzzles, reading, watching football (ESPECIALLY the University of Houston!), baseball, basketball and golf. He also enjoyed camping and eating at his favorite Mexican food restaurant, Los Casona. He enjoyed traveling with Pat and especially enjoyed their three week driving tour of Europe and traveling up the East coast to see the seasonal color change. One of his closest companions was his Norwich terrier, Bailey! Other pets, over the years, were Murphy, Dixie, Maggie and Charlie. Larry was a member of Christ Lutheran Church and also held membership with the Elks Lodge #2200, where he was the recipient of the Officer of the Year award for 2003-2004. Larry is survived by his wife, Pat “Baby”; children, Jeffrey, David & Amy, son-in-law, Kenneth; grandchildren, Ronny, Dustin, Kendra, Kenneth Jr., and David Jr.; brother, Tom and many friends including Ken Chaplin. A memorial service will be held at 6:00 pm Tuesday, September 27, 2011 at Christ Lutheran Church in Lake Jackson with Paul Geisler officiating. Arrangements under the direction of Restwood Funeral Home & Memorial Park, Clute, Texas.
