Lionel Joseph Fourrier Sr.

April 22, 1923May 4, 2013

Lionel Joseph Fourrier Sr. 90 Passed from this life to the next on the morning of May 4, 2013. Born in Baton Rouge, La., April 22, 1923 “LJ” as he was known was a great many things to many people. He attended Catholic High in Baton Rouge and went to LSU on a music scholarship before his college days were abruptly postponed by the Second World War He served in the 57th Armored Division of the U.S. Army, Attaining the rank of captain. Although he rarely spoke of savage battles he was a part of while in Europe, his many citations, Bronze star and two Purple Hearts bear testament to his sacrifice. He did say that each and every day he had been given since that brutal war was a gift from the divine hand of God. He lived his life as a Christian Following the war L.J. returned to LSU and graduated with a degree in chemical engineering. During that time while hospitalized to repair injuries received in the war he was tended to by Nurse Rosemary Duhe of Waterproof La. She soon became Mrs. L.J. Fourrier. L.J. went to work for Dow Chemical in Freeport, Texas and genuinely loved his job, working there for 36 years and retiring in 1986. He was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church and served on numerous civic boards during his professional career. He was also very proud of his involvement with the inception and development of the Sea Center Texas, a collaborative teaching and research facility whose mission was to educate youth about the ecosystem and replenish the natural resources of our coastal regions. Anyone who knew L.J. “Pop” would describe him as a gentle soul who had the vision and the intellect to see through problems to their solutions. He provided very wise council for many and was the “mast” to which you tethered in a storm. As a father he was firm but fair and offered all of life’s great lessons by example ; honestly integrity, work ethic, love and humility. When confronted with difficult decisions he was not afraid to say that God would provide the answer… just give him a little time, the only luxury pop ever afforded himself was his indulgence in fishing …the man loved to fish. Standing waist deep in emerald surf, rod bowed under the weight of a powerful fish was when he was most at ease, joyful and relaxed. He was a fine man and a great dad. Lionel Joseph Fourrier Sr. was preceded in death by his parents: Lawrence and Felicie Fourrier; siblings, Laura Fourrier Diel, Lawrence C. Fourrier, Brother Felecian Fourrier, SC, Francis Fourrier and Elise Miller and wife Rosemary Fourrier. He is survived by his siblings, Josie Daniel of Baton Rouge and Jeanne F. Hayne of Grapevine, TX. He is also survived by a daughter; Fabienne Ann Huse of Houston and sons; Dr. Lionel J. Fourrier and wife Deneile of Hockley, TX Michael G. Fourrier of Lake Jackson and Jeffery D. Fourrier and wife Debbie of Brazoria TX. He is survived by grandchildren Shane Huse, Lance Huse, Cameron Fourrier, Luke Fourrier, Joshua Fourrier and Gabrielle Fourrier. He is also survived by a Great Grandchild Gavin Huse. The Fourrier family wishes to thank Mrs. Rosie Tidwell, Husband George and Their family for the unparalled love and care provided to L.J. in his final years. Rosie cared for him like he was her own and he loved her in return.
