
Martha was born July 6, 1931 in Rita, Texas to Lee and Euda Williams and was the sixth child of eight. She married the love of her life, Thomas G Philp, in 1949 and settled in Freeport, TX. Martha was a natural caregiver and cared for her husband in their home after he was disabled in 1974 until his death in 1995.
Martha was known for her southern hospitality and enjoyed entertaining family and friends. She loved bringing them together and cooking everyone’s favorite dishes. She was a sharp 42 player and always ready to sit down and play for hours. Martha was active in her church behind the scenes, planning, preparing and serving food for various church functions. She never met a stranger and made people feel at ease and welcome. Her infectious laugh and generous heart will be remembered and missed greatly.
Martha is survived by her son, James G. Philp Sr. and wife Olga of Freeport, Texas; granddaughter Dr. Janet B. Eddy, grandson James G. Philp Jr. and Lucy Gutierrez, grandson John J Philp; great-grandchildren Mateo Eddy, Noah Eddy, Eliana Eddy, James G Philp III, Jonah Philp; brother Lonnie L Williams and wife, Brenda; sister Patricia J Hebert; numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Thomas G Philp; parents, Lee and Euda Williams; brothers - Rankin “Pat” Williams and wife Betty, Billie Mac Williams and wife Earline, Edward F Williams; sisters - Pauline Kornegay and husband David, Shirley Eberspacher and husband Lou; brother-in-laws A.J. Hebert, Jr., John Philp and wife Maud.
Martha spent the past five months as a resident of Copperas Hollow Nursing and Rehabilitation in Caldwell, Texas. She always said “they are taking good care of me.” The family would like to thank the staff for making her feel safe and comfortable during this time.
