Norma (Jean) Zedlitz Clements, age 93, passed away on Saturday, December 12, 2020 from a tough medical battle after a fall in her back yard. She fought a brave and valiant battle but in the end she got the Covid19 virus and lost.
Jean was born Feb. 1, 1927 in Sharp, TX. She was the third child out of the five daughters to Mr. & Mrs. Fred Zedlitz. The family moved to Freeport, Tx in 1937. Her father worked for the Freeport Sulphur Co. She met her husband, Clinton Huey Clements Sr., and they married in 1944. In 1958, Huey felt the call to become a Methodist Minister so they sold their home in Freeport and the Methodist Conference sent them to serve a church near Wharton, TX. They both graduated from Wharton Junior College in 1960. Upon graduation, they moved to Chappell Hill so Huey could go to Southwestern University in Georgetown, TX. They rented an apartment in Georgetown and Jean commuted to Austin to work at T.H. Williams. Each Friday, they drove back to serve the church in Chappell Hill on weekends. After her husband got his degree from Southwestern in 1963, they moved to Dallas so Huey could go to Perkins School of Theology on the campus of Southern Methodist University. While there, Jean worked at the Highland Park Presbyterian Church and she was there when John F. Kennedy was shot. In April 1964, their only son came into their lives and she always said he was such a blessing to them. Jean helped Huey with church duties and in the 1970’s worked for Marshall Chevrolet while living in Hempstead, TX. Later they were sent to Malakoff, TX and she worked for a Ford dealer there. In Teague, TX she worked for Rick’s Funeral Home and when her husband retired they moved back to Lake Jackson, TX. Jean worked 15 and a half years at Sears at the Brazos Mall. They had come full circle.
