Peggy married Robert Harold “Bob” Gault on Feb. 6, 1948. Together, they raised their family in Midland, Texas, before moving to Lubbock and later retiring to Columbia Lakes. An incisive and deductive thinker, she participated in her husband’s innovations in petroleum engineering, while also playing a lot of bridge and Mah Jong. Well into her 90s, she remained an avid golfer and important member of Bethel Presbyterian Church in West Columbia. She loved travel, small dogs, white wine, cookies, and above all, her family and community.
Peggy was fierce, tenacious, loyal--a powerful advocate and an inspiring presence. Exceptionally sharp and practical-minded, she brought clarity, confidence, and authority to everything she did. At the same time, some of her oft-repeated wisdom stressed the importance of accepting limitations: “you got to take the bum with the lousy,” “you win some, you lose some, and some get rained out,” and “you do the best you can with what you got, and that’s all the Good Lord can ask of you.”
Peggy was preceded in death by her husband Bob Gault; her parents Clyde and Velma Burnett; siblings Clydene Thomas and Mack Burnett and her granddaughter Laura Kirby.
Peggy is survived by brother Doug Burnett; her daughter Vicki Kirby (Larry), and grandchildren Ellen Kirby and Paige Frome (Bill) and children Caleb Arden, Hannah Frome, Becca Frome and Noah Frome; as well as her son Steve Gault (Debbie), and grandchildren Dianne Gault, Joe Gault (Karen), and great-grandchildren Payton Gault and Lauren Gault.
