Tom was born on February 12, 1938 in Huntington, West Virginia, to Ralph Benjamin Penvose and Velma Holliday Evans. He moved to Surfside as a young man in 1960 and married the love of his life, Judith Ann Campbell, in December of that very same year. Tom was the beloved husband of Ann for 57 beautiful years, and together they raised a loving family of 2 daughters. Tom was a proud grandfather of 2; and a cherished great-grandfather of 5, who brought him great joy.
As a DOW employee, he gave many years of service and retired in 1993 as a Production Foreman in the Styrene plant. Tom was always a hard worker and not one to procrastinate, one of his favorite sayings was “What’s the matter with now?” a work ethic he started as a 14 year old boy, when he worked at his grandfather’s auto shop. That love for cars that started in his youth grew throughout his lifetime and followed him into adulthood. He was a BIG car enthusiast, attending drag races and car shows with his wife, and sometimes his grandchildren. He was well-known locally for his custom paint and body work and he showcased his talent by painting his own impressive show cars. He received his 50 year Master Mason certificate in 2021 from the Grand Lodge of Texas. Tom loved golfing with his wife and friends at Riverside Country Club and enjoyed making the occasional trip, with his wife and daughter, to Coushatta to try their luck.
He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, daughter Ruth Gayle Penvose, and sister, Barbara Penvose Morrison.
Left to remember him are his daughter Lisa Monaghan and husband Russell of Sweeny; his grandchildren Christopher Monaghan of Houston, Devin Monaghan of Sweeny; great-grandchildren Harper and Khalil Monaghan, Maddie, Charlotte and Jensyn Piechowski; and other close friends and family.
The family would like to thank Tom’s caregivers for their commitment and helpful services this year.
A private graveside service will be held.
