Raymond Keith Tremain, 77, passed away peacefully on July 7, 2020. Ray was born and raised near Sidney, Nebraska, the middle son of three brothers to Mildred and Guy Tremain. He grew up on the family farm; driving combines, tractors, and shoveling wheat and millet. Ray’s education began in a one room schoolhouse comprised of farm kids. The students’ mothers would take turns making hot lunches for the entire class, which was the highlight of the day according to Ray.
After graduating from high school, Ray attended the University of Wyoming where he played football. After college, he was drafted into the Army during the Vietnam War. Ray was on his way to Vietnam when his ship was diverted to Germany. While in Germany, Ray served his country as a member of the Military Police. Ray would tell many stories of his time in Germany, where he learned to love bratwurst, wiener schnitzel, and German beer.
Ray was honorably discharged from the Army, and returned home to begin his career. He knew he wanted to do something other than farming; so he moved to California to enjoy life by the ocean, eating shrimp, and playing beach volleyball with his friends. Ray started his career working for American Airlines in Los Angeles. It was in California that he met and married his wife Susan. After several years of marriage, Ray and Susie welcomed their only child Courtney (Tremain) Gilbert. A week after Courtney was born, they moved to San Francisco for a few years until being transferred to Texas. Ray would spend the next, almost, 40 years in the Dallas/Fort Worth area raising his family and working in the airline business.
Ray was a devoted family man who was either working or on the sidelines coaching Courtney in a variety of different sports. After retiring from American Airlines, he enjoyed retirement for a short time before boredom set in. Ray loved lunches at the real estate office and chatting with new people. He never met a stranger, and loved talking to everyone. After his second retirement, Ray and Susan moved to Lake Jackson in 2018; to be closer to their three grandchildren. Building Legos, completing puzzles, watching cartoons, cheering on the sidelines at Little League and soccer games, and enjoying desserts with the grandchildren; was where you could always find Ray.
Ray is survived by his wife, of 44 years, Susan; daughter, Courtney (Justin) Gilbert; and three grandchildren Justin, John Raymond, and Grace.
He is preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Ron and Weldon Tremain.
The family will have a private service at the Houston National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent in honor of Ray Tremain to the Military Moms and Wives of Brazoria County.
