Rebecca was born on April 25, 1955, in Lufkin, Texas and grew up in Corrigan. She later made her home in the Brazosport area, where she built a life rooted in music, education, friendship, and the companionship of her beloved dogs.
A gifted musician and lifelong educator, Rebecca earned both her Bachelor of Arts and Master of Education degrees. She dedicated her career to serving as a Band Director and Music Teacher, shaping generations of students with her talent, patience, and unwavering belief in the power of music. She was a proud member of the Texas Music Educators Association and participated in their conventions for many years.
Rebecca’s passions extended far beyond the classroom. She had a profound love for her dogs Tina, Zora, and Rosie, who remained her constant companions. She enjoyed traveling with friends, delivering meals to those in need, and participating in the Elizabethan Madrigal Feast where she found joy, community, and creativity. Her humor, kindness, and steadfast dedication to teaching music are the qualities people will remember most.
Rebecca was preceded in death by her parents Byron Shelton and Charlotte Hawkins Shelton, and her sister Mary Shelton.
She is survived by her husband, Bennett (Wayne) Geeslin; her daughter, Elizabeth Anne Geeslin; her grandchildren, Eric Venegas and Adelina Ceniceros; her sister Ginny (Virginia) Fender; her brother, Byron (Ned) Shelton; numerous nephews and great-nieces; and her precious dog, Rosie.
