On May 14, 2025, Ronald Alvin Jones, ended his journey on this earth at his home in Lake Jackson, Texas with his family by his side. He is now at peace and free of pain and suffering after an eight month battle with mucosal melanoma.
Ron was born in Le Sueur, Minnesota on September 9, 1933, the son of Harvey and Clara (Haas) Jones. After graduating from Le Sueur High School in 1951, he enlisted in the Air Force and was a stationed in Japan (Johnson AFB and Shiroi AFB). Upon his return from Japan, he was assigned to the Headquarter of the United States Air Force Security Service at Kelly AFB in San Antonio. It was during this time that his roommate invited him to go to the Catholic Young Adults Club at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, and it was there that he first met Kay Woods. They married at Our Lady of Grace in San Antonio, Texas on September 6, 1958 and were married for 60 years, until her passing in 2018.
Ron graduated from The University of Texas in Austin with a B.S. in Chemical Engineering in 1960 and immediately began his career with The Dow Chemical Company. Over the next 34 years, he worked for Dow primarily at their Freeport, Texas location. However, he also worked for the company in Midland, Michigan; and was Plant Manager at Dow’s sites in both Russellville, Arkansas, and Salvador, Brazil.
Ron was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus, and was involved in many ministries and committees of the Church over the years, including the St. Michael Church Building Committee and St. Vincent de Paul. He also served on the Brazosport Emergency Management Committee, the Brazoria County Local Emergency Planning Committee and the Brazoria County Community Foundation.
Ron had a passion for travel and genealogy. He and Kay traveled all over the world, visiting over 63 countries and setting foot on every continent except Antarctica. One of his most cherished trips was to Israel where he visited all of the Christian sites in the Holy Land. With regard to his genealogy research, let’s just say that the notebooks that he compiled through his research, quite literally, fill an entire room!
He is predeceased by his wife Kay Jones; his daughter, Leslie Stein; his infant daughter, Wendy Jones; as well as his parents, Clara Haas and Harvey Jones, and brother Wendell Jones.
Surviving family members are his daughters, Kellie Chaney (Jim) and Kaycie Moore (Randy) all of Lake Jackson; grandchildren Sam Chaney (Melissa) , of Lake Jackson, Stuart Stein of San Antonio, Texas, Preston Stein (Peyton) of Bryan, Texas and Nick Moore (Brett) of Austin Texas. He is also survived by two nephews, Barrett Jones of Connecticut and Brendan Jones of New York, as well as seven great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that anyone wishing to honor Ron’s memory make a donation to the St. Vincent De Paul Society at St. Michael Catholic Church, 100 Oak Drive, Lake Jackson, Texas 77566.
The family would also like to thank the caregivers from Care Builders who assisted in our Dad’s care over the past several years, particularly Lucia, Mandy, Sharon, Ashley, and Sylvia. We had the best team of caregivers in Brazoria County, bar none, and no thank you will ever be enough for the kind and gentle care they gave our Dad.
Any one that really knew Ron knows that he is in Heaven right now with his Day-Timer planner and pen in hand taking copious notes. Whenever we meet up with him again, he will be able to give us a precise and detailed accounting of all that has transpired from May 14, 2025 forward.
Ron was a dedicated father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who loved his family very much. He will forever be missed.
