

Royce Hershel Holman, of Deer Park, formerly of the Brazosport area, was born July 16, 1923 in Graham, Texas to Cap Hershel Holman, born September 8, 1887 in Thackerville, Oklahoma and died July 16, 1974 in Graham, Texas, and Katherine Ruth Cullers, born August 23, 1890 in Jack County, Texas and died May 10, 1928 in Graham, Texas. He died March 18, 2012 in Pasadena, Texas at the age of 88 years, 8 months and 2 days. He served in the United States Coast Guard as a Merchant Marines during World War II and was a decorated veteran, receiving the Merchant Marine Emblem, Atlantic War Zone Bar, Pacific War Zone Bar and the Mediterranean – Middle East War Zone Bar. He was on a ship who delivered soldiers to Utah Beach on D day. He came home shortly afterwards to marry his childhood sweetheart. He married Kathleen Howard June 22, 1944. Although he had promised his dad he wouldn’t marry until the war was over, D day was close enough. He also served in the Army Reserves. He retired from Dow Chemical Company, January 31, 1986, with 16 years of service as a machinist. Preceding him in death are his parents, step mother, Lillie Ramsey; brothers and sisters, Virgil Wilton Holman, Hilton Holman, Ethina Howard, his twin sister Joyce Ruth Watkins and his daughter, Carol Ann Lindsey. He is survived by his wife, Kathleen Magdalene Holman; sister, Mary Elizabeth Brisco; brother, Gayle Holman; children, Shirley Jean Holman-Unger, Alvin Lee Holman, Lillie Kathleen, Jenetta Lynn Harris; Grandchildren, Cynthia Sue Unger, Debi Davis, D J Unger, Kathy Johnson, Dennis Dale Lindsey, Christi Boswell, Stephen Dowdy, Jeremy Dowdy, Katie Marie Wright, Robin Parrish; great grandchildren, Deanna Unger, Reagan Miller, Ryan Davis, Dylan Davis, Abigail Davis, Dustin Unger, Austin Unger, Zachary Conyers, Alexis Johnson, Dalton Johnson, Andrew Parrish and Anthony Parrish. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm, Thursday, March 22, 2012 at the Restwood Funeral Home Chapel, with Dennis D. Lindsey officiating. Visitation will be held prior to the service on Thursday from 10:00 am until the service time. Burial will follow in the Restwood Memorial Park with Ryan Davis, Matt Lindsey, Don Unger, Jr., Jimmy Boswell, Chris Davis and Jake Lindsey serving as pallbearers.
