Sharlyn June Bird, 86, of Lake Jackson, Texas, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on May 28, 2026. Born on July 18, 1939, in Junction City, Kansas, to Robert M. and Bertha McAllister, Sharlyn grew up and graduated from high school in Bertram, Texas, where she also married her high school sweetheart, Charles C. Bird. Together they built their life in Lake Jackson, Texas, raising three children and making countless memories over the years.
Sharlyn was an extraordinarily gifted artist, beloved for her oil paintings and pastel portraits. Her talent touched the lives of many, and her work will endure as a lasting testament to the beauty she saw in the world around her. She began each morning the same way — settled on her back porch with a cup of coffee, watching over her very well-fed birds, and lifting her loved ones up in prayer. It was a quiet ritual that spoke volumes about the woman she was: grateful, faithful, and deeply devoted to those she loved.
Her faith was the cornerstone of her life. Sharlyn loved God with her whole heart, and her church family and small group were a treasured part of her days. Those who knew her well have no doubt that Jesus held her in His loving arms through her last earthly breath.
One of Sharlyn's great joys was visiting her sister Charla in Bertram, where she was made to feel so loved and cherished by Charla and her nieces, Kimberly, Rhonda, and Angela. She also delighted in working at the Nutcracker Station each holiday season, a tradition that brought her joy year after year.
Sharlyn was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Charles C. Bird; her parents, Robert M. and Bertha McAllister; her brothers, William Layne and Robert McAllister; and her sister, Betty Perkins.
She is survived by her three children: son Michael Bird and his wife Cindy, son Terry Bird and his wife Claudette, and daughter Dana Browning and her husband Terryl; her sister, Charla Stark; ten grandchildren: Michael David Bird, Michael Shelkey and wife Tiffany, Michelle Denise Evans and husband Brian, Brandy Bird and wife Amanda, Joseph Bird, Matthew Bird and wife Kari, Morgan Priesmeyer and husband Craig, Caleb Browning and wife Safire, Caitlyn Browning, and Jose Patlan Delgado and wife April; seventeen great-grandchildren: Blaine Bird, Brooke Bird, Jalee Hunt, Jacob Shelkey, Emma Shelkey, Ava Shelkey, Jaxon Shelkey, Noah Swope, Cole Tindell, Joshua Tindell, Austin Thompson, Lakielynde Thompson, Hunter Thompson, Kyleigh Bird, Jackson Bird, Zoe Baker, and Mileena Patlan; as well as numerous nieces and nephews who held a very special place in her heart.
