October 4, 1954 - April 17, 2016
At 4:23 p.m. on Sunday April 17, 2016 our heavenly father, God, welcomed Steve with open arms to be an angel in his perfect kingdom, Heaven.
Steve devoted his time and love to his family, his church, and his community. Being a father and grandfather is something that gave him the most joy in his life. He was an honorable man that would give you his last dollar if he thought you needed it.
From an early age, Steve loved to go to the beach. It was his happy place. He started surfing as an adolescent. As he got older, surfing became more than just a hobby for him; it gave him an inner peace.
Steve became clean and sober on February 2, 1987. This was the day he became reborn. He called this day his birthday. He was passionate and proud of his 29 years of sobriety. Over those 29 years, he saved many lives through his ability to converse and share with others struggling with addiction.
Steve was a loving son, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He will be missed dearly by many. Steve is preceded in death by his father Herminio Gonzales. He is survived by his parents Genevieve and Jesse Villarreal; his daughters and son in-laws Angela and Oscar Lewis, Tracy and Jon Duron, and Melissa Gonzales and Nathan Mcpherson. He will also be missed by his grandkids; Mariah and Jordan Lewis, Jacob and Abigail Duron, and Destiny Gonzales. He leaves behind his brothers, sister, and their spouses; Earl and Corinna Gonzales, Martin and Terri Villarreal, James and Martha Villarreal, Anthony and Julie Villarreal, Lisa and Alex Montemayor, Jorge Villarreal, and Jesse Villarreal. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
Steve believed whole heartedly in the almighty, powerful God and he was very appreciative of all the prayers he received while battling his cancer. The family would like to thank everyone that prayed for Steve during his last days here on earth. The prayers gave him peace within his heart.
A Memorial Services will be held on Thursday April 21, 2016 at 1:00 PM at Restwood Funeral Home, with a Rosary to follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations go to a Cancer Organization of your choosing.
