Truman was born in Houston, TX on September 18, 1942 to Lottie Gray and Rayford Thompson. He and his sisters lived briefly in Houston while his father began his career at Dow chemical. When a residence was available, they joined him in Lake Jackson and became pioneers of the city.
Always industrious, Truman’s first job was delivering fliers for the Lake Theater. He worked at Lake Jackson flower shop as a teen, where he purchased many flowers for his sweetheart, Laura. He graduated from Brazosport High School in 1961 and North Texas State University on January 31, 1965 with a BBA. One week later, Truman married his high school sweetheart and began his career in finance and real estate at Brazosport Savings and Loan, then at Freeport National Bank. Later he worked as bookkeeper at Williams Diesel. Truman became a partner with his father-in-law Joe Williams, Jr. and Uncle Kenneth Williams in the purchase and running of Hunter Flores Marine Construction and Salvage until his retirement.
Truman was a quiet, simple man with no desires for things for himself, but drawn to be generous to family, friends, and strangers. He was always prompt, a man of commitment, loyal to friends , faithful to his God, and amazed and grateful for all God’s grace and blessings. He tried to live by God’s commandments.
He has shown you, O man, what is good.
And what does the lord require of you?
To act justly, to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.
Micah 6:8
He will be remembered for his generosity, infectious smile, sense of humor, and hearty laugh.
He will fill your mouth with laughter and your lips with shouting.
Job 8:21
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Treva Jean Bryant, and brother-in-law, Robert Gerhardt.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 54 years, Laura Williams Thompson; sister, Lynda Gerhardt; daughter, Marla Thompson Thomas [Ty]; son, Kevin Thompson [Molly]; grandchildren, York and Jaclyn Thomas, Ryan and Casey Thompson; brother-in-law, Bob Williams [Teri]; aunt, Doris Williams; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and treasured friends.
The family would like to extend heart-felt thanks to Dr. Raj Dalal, the staff of IPH Hospice, and especially to Esmeralda and Lisa for their compassionate care of our loved one.
