Velma Harper Ackermann, 93, of Lake Jackson, Texas went to her heavenly home on Thursday, September 12, 2019. Velma was born to Mack and Ora Harper on May 24, 1926 in Colorado City, Texas. She married Reuben Ackermann in Pleasanton, Texas on June 18, 1977.
Velma was a highly awarded high school math teacher in a profession spanning thirty-nine years and teaching in numerous Texas and Oklahoma school districts. In 1943, Velma graduated from Colorado City High School as class valedictorian. After high school, Velma attended Abilene Christian University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics on August 29, 1947. Velma was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She loved sewing and was a talented seamstress. She would make clothing for her children, grandchildren, and children in the neighborhood that need clothes. She like reading books, and loved going to the ranch home in Junction, Texas. She was a dedicated Sunday school teacher and lifetime member of the Church of Christ.
Velma is preceded in death by her husband, Reuben; parents, Mack and Ora Harper; and sister, Maxine Parker.
Velma is survived by her two sons, Robert (Connie) Aubrey; and David Aubrey; and sister, Sarah Cannon. She is also survived by five grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 28, 2019 at Carriage Inn, 130 Lake Rd; in Lake Jackson, Texas starting at 1:00 p.m.
