In Jean’s childhood years, she grew up in Freer Texas on the Sun Oil Camp and spent many enjoyable summers at her grandparents house in Bishop Texas.
After graduating from Freer High School, at the age of 17 Jean went to San Antonio Baptist Nursing College graduating as an RN. Her first nursing job was a school nurse at Texas A&I College, Kingsville Texas. She married her childhood sweetheart Carl and they were married for 63 years until Carl’s passing in 2017. Carl was sent to Ft. Bennington during the Korean War where their first child Doug was born. After the war Jean and Carl moved to San Antonio Texas where they had two more boys, Art and Steve. Later the family moved to Lake Jackson and two more children were born, Lydia and Jeannie. Jean worked evenings at the local hospital once Carl came home from work. She eventually worked in Dr. Stewart’s allergy clinic giving many allergy shots. Later Jean worked as a school nurse for BISD and Our Lady Queen of Peace until the age of 80. She loved the school kids.
