Verdelle was born in Freeport on November 28, 1927 to Ruth Naomi Tannery and Virgil “Buster” Tannery. She grew up in Freeport and graduated from Brazosport High School in 1945. Verdelle worked for many years as an underwriter for Travelers Insurance Company in Houston, retiring at the age of 65 to continue working part time before fully retiring at the age of 80. She loved to travel and often traveled throughout the United States on a motorcycle. Verdelle also liked to go fishing and boating.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her brother, Dr. Gene Paul Tannery; her husband, Murvel Landers; after the passing of Murvel, she was also preceded in death by her second husband, Leo Gregory; her son, Ronnie Landers; and her grandson, Jason Luycx.
Verdelle is survived by her loving daughter, Susan Green and her husband, David Green; her stepchildren, Cliff Gregory and his wife, Pam Gregory, Eddie Gregory and Wade Gregory. Verdelle is also survived by her grandchildren, Shawn Fox and his wife, Tara, Lori Tahacek, Stephanie Melass and her husband, Brian, JD Green and his wife, Stephanie, Justin Green and his wife, Lori. Verdelle also had 11 great-grandchildren and three great- great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, January 15, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Restwood Funeral Home, 1038 W. Plantation Dr., Clute, Texas 77531.
