I wrote this little poem for my Great Grandmother Clo in the month of march of this year. Took some time for me to feel comfortable sharing this. I have so many memories of my great grandmother as a child I wrote her constantly as I grew older they became sparce but I learned how to write very beautifully. 











































Weeping Willows 

When you are gone from this world the earth will shake and tremble at its loss. It will not weep through rain it will flourish and grow. The flowers will bloom as far as the eye can see. The song birds will sing the sweetest melodies of a soul as gentle as yours. The sun will shine bright and the little breeze will keep the heat at bay. Your soul will return to the place you have called home. You lived to be 102 just 10 days shy of your 103rd birthday. Your family that still walks the earth will hold the stories of your life close to our hearts. You will forever be missed but never forgotten. The weeping willows with their hanging limbs will rejoice at the presence of your gentle soul returning, they will welcome you with such a tender embrace like that of long lost friend. True love exists here in these lands if you are attuned to such simple treasures.

Ole to the Last Pioneer

I had only two occasions to have met Mrs. Clo Akers, both quite memorable.  The first was a hot summer day, one of those days way over 100 in the summer of 1996.   A friend from work, Moses Hernandez and his family, had come up for a visit as his kids loved to explore the old road camp.  After working up quite a sweat, we decided to try and find a swimming hole farther up the canyon as the creek was dry at our place.  We knew that San Benito River might hold enough water to cool off.  As we drove along the river, the first house was Clo's.  We knew of the Akers through stories we heard and how they had settled these parts.  So we decided to pull in as Clo had the only spring hole for miles.  After parking and walking to the door, I hammered on the gate post, and out came Clo.  With a big smile she was happy to oblige our request to swim.  As I look back now I think she was half tempted to go swimming with us.  After an hour or so we left, again thanking her for her hospitality and thought what a great place she and her pioneering family had carved out of the mountains.  The second time we met was a few years later.  There was a big fire to the west of us, and I was driving up the mountain to check on its advance.  As we passed by Clo's house, the ash was falling like big snow flakes all around.  So we pulled in to check up on her.  Again I pounded on the gate, and after our conversation about the fire, I learned she had no concern whatsoever about the ash falling all around, and it was just another wonderful day.  That struck a cord with me that an old lady, all by herself, had no concern over the fire on the other side of the mountain.  It exemplifies how tough and self reliant she and all those other pioneers were.  I fear that with the passing of Mrs. Clo Akers, if not for her offspring, it would be the end of the great legacy of the pioneer.
